but all the ones I'm aware of occur at an early age. Does anyone know of any religion in which the initiation rites occur at or near adulthood?

Mormons believe that a person must be old enough to be accountable for their own sins, so they set the minimum age for baptism at 8 years old.

in fundamental baptist churches baptism and church membership occur after a personal decision to recieve Christ as your personal savior. For many this doesn't happen until they are adults. Some baptist churches will allow children to profess faith in Christ to be baptized, but won't let them become official members of the church until they are 18.

No, no, no--your wrong.
People get saved at 82 or 91 or ANY age that you decide you want to follow Christ.

People don't think about it sometimes, till they are about to die-
THEN they know God is real and that they don't want to go to hell.
That's why they get baptized later in life also.

Believing in religion is dangerous! Believe in God ,his what you call " initiation" is that you believe in his son Jesus Christ that he died for you, and your in. Then follow your heart and listen to GOD!
