I was wondering if anyone knew or had enlisted in the navy right after high school. I am going to graduate high school at age 17 in june 13-14, 2008. I know that to enlist and if your underage you'll need your parents with you. I was wondering if i turn 17 (october 15,) can i got the navy recruiter and enlist cause i don't want to stay another day nor month at home, just tired of it. if i enlist right then. when i turn 17 how long after june 13-14 2008 will i have to wait for boot camp.? oh and if anybody could give me any advice toward what job i should get with a descent score. ? thanks.

You must be a High School Graduate and your parents must give WRITTEN permission. if they won't sign, you won't be shipping until you are 18.

If you turn 17 this year, you can sign up in DEP now and lock in a ship date for after June 14th 2008. Exactly when you would ship would depend on what A school you get and when it starts, as they time Boot Camp graduation to coincide with the start of A school.

Boot is 9 weeks long. A school is anywhere form 2 weeks to 2 years long, depending on rating.

Alright here we go...

First . When you are 17 you can go the navy recruiter and begin your 100 question paper work and turn that in and then go to MEPS as soon as the next day. They wanted me to go 3 days after i started so no worries there. Although i do suggest taking your time and really think about what you are getting into. This is a big decision you are about to make and you need to make sure this is really want you want. Because if you don't want it then we dont want you in the Navy being all negative about your job and how much you hate it.

Secondly. Most jobs require that you be 18 when you enter school. So no you will not be able to leave for basic right away. You will be put into the DEP and then upon turning 18 you will be able to ship.

Third. You will take a test called the ASVAB or Armed Service Vocational Aptitude Battery. It is a test that will determine your ability in certain areas, upon completing that test you will then be given an idea of what jobs you are eligible for. I suggest you start preparing now if you want a good job and good score. check out www.march2success.com, although it is an army sight it does have test prep for the ASVAB.

Finally. Boot camp is 8 weeks long, located in Great Lakes, IL. You will love it.

Like i said make sure you are sure this is what you want to do. This is a big choice and a life changing experience. Good luck.

I wasn't in the Navy, But I joined the Marine Corps when i was 17. For the Marines you can go to boot camp when you are 17 as long as you are 18 by the time you graduate. I assume that it is similar to the navy with the age

Join the Marines or Army instead Navy is cool and all but being on a tin can for 6 months at a time is more stressful than it looks.

have you talked to a recruiter? because they would be able to answer all of your questions.

as for what job you should do... what do you LIKE to do? what do you want to be? in the Navy you can be pretty much anything!

boot camp is eight weeks, as long as you do everything right.

good luck in your decisions!
