Freedoms only exist where we choose to defend them.
If we allow our govt to become despotic -- and to take away our freedoms -- we lose them forever -- or for as long as we allow that govt to remain.
This country was founded on the idea that freedom is paramount, and that the govt should only be allowed to limit our freedoms with out consent. A despot limits our freedom without our consent -- hence violating the basic core principles that this country was founded upon.

Jefferson... Washington, Aadams, Franklin, the list goes on and on... They knew only one thing. That living under the tyranny of a king in which they had absolutely NO SAY in how they were governed was wrong. So they pressed for and started a war of independance from said government. But they realized something along the way. That up until that point, no "Civilized" group of people had ever been self governed, and that in order to Keep the rights that they set forth in the Declaration and Constitution would require that men be willing to FIGHT and yes even DIE to keep them. If youre not willing to die to keep the rights you claim, then what good are they? Freedom is not free, it never has been. Being given the rights of freespeach, or to move about the country as you wish, or free press, or the ability to own guns in your defense of yourself and home, doesnt mean a thing to most people. But if you had to FIGHT for those rights, for the abilities to do things most people of the world are unable to do, it would bring home to you just how precious those rights are. Including Changing the government when it no longer serves the people, but serves itself. We DO have that right as well.

In your opinion, if Jefferson was so rightous, why did he own slaves? Why did he have forced intercourse with one of those slaves?
Not that I'm picking on Jefferson, I think he was one of the greatest Americans, but you can't take one part of a person's life to make your point without taking that person's whole life.
