My g/f and I currently live 1100 miles apart; we both have kids and other family things to deal with at the holidays, and although I do PLAN to be moved closer to her my Christmas, there's no guarantees it will happen by then.
Any good ideas for gifts? Let's assume we'll be together; what sort of cool gifts are appropriate for a first Christmas together? If it helps, she's 36 and has been divorced about a year. She's into the Dresden Dolls, Evanescence, Plain White T's, Alice in Wonderland, agnosticism and questioning authority, Happy Bunny, reading in a WIDE variety of subjects, and anti-authoritarianism.

Neither of us are currently interested in remarriage, at least not TOO soon! But thanks for the thought... just a bit premature!

honestly, for a couple who are thousand miles apart, i think the gift wont matter anymore, just the presence and idea that you're together and will spend christmas together,no expensive gifts could ever be valued more than that...although if you insist i'd love the flowers.goodluck.

everyone else is helping you with the assumption you will be together so i am going to play devil's advocate and i'm taking the opposite assumption, i'm assuming you won't be able to make it - this way you'll have all your bases covered!
how about a simple phone call? make arrangements to have all the kids settled for the night, all visitors gone, all chores put aside and have a phone date.
you could send her a date-basket. you could fill it with:
a romantic cd
a plain white t-nightie,
a box of really good quality chocolates,
a martini glass and mix,
a little piece of jewellery, [not a ring]
if you can ship overnight you could even put a single rose in the box, [you can get the florist to put the stem in one of those little plastic containers of water]
a pretty hankerchief for the tears that may fall at the sound of your voice
a box of lozenges to keep her voice soft for that hour long phone call,
and when you call tell her how much you love her and how glad you will be when you can finally be together.
tell her you are counting the days!
good luck!!!!!!
