Where it shows the Model Number on the barrel, it also says 2 3/4 & 3. I assume that I can only use these size shells with this gun. My friend ( who I purchased it from ) claims I can use the 3 1/4 size shells he bought me. Is he correct or should I just go buy size 3 shells? I am 35 and if you can't tell this is my first shotgun. I know just about everything about revolvers & autos but I am ignorant when it comes to shotguns. I know you can put .22 shells in a .25 but that doesn't mean you should : )

Thanks

Take my word for it as a Gunsmith..If it says on the shotgun 2 3/4" or 3" shells it means EXACTLY what it says. NOT 3 1/4" shells. Do not try and shoot shells other than what the gun tells you it will chamber.NO EXCEPTIONS!
Your Winchester 1300 will fire 2 3/4" or 3" magnum shells only!

JD has said it, do NOT use any longer than 3" shells.
As you say, you can put a .22 in a .25, but there would be little point , it won't fire, as the .22 is a rimfire and the .25 a centrefire.
Which leaves me with the thought that maybe you don't know "just about everything" to use your own words?

This gun will only shoot 2 3 /4 or 3 in. only! if that is whats stated on barrel. Use 2 3 /4 for birds such as pheasant and three inch for turkey.

Your shotgun or anyones actually who says 2 3/4 or 3'' can only hold up to a 3'' shell in length. It cannot hold a 3 1/4 because for one it doenst exist, its a 3 1/2, and it will severaly mess up your gun and possibly you. Dont shoot any shell over 3''.

A 3 1/4 inch shell will not go into this weapon the largest shell is a 3 and that is it.
