If not, then where did we get this idea that it is wrong?
Christian's claim that we get our moral code and ethics from the bible and the bible only, because man can not possibly think for themselves.
So where did the idea that cannibalism is "wrong", come from?

I definitely think that cannibalism is wrong. But then again, I don't claim to derive my morals from a bible, either.

As an atheist, I am always asked where do I get my morals from? Just look on R & S, you will see plenty of examples.
I was thinking about the Donner Party, who did not kill individuals, but did eat them, because they would have died otherwise.
If the Bible does say it is wrong, why were they not prosecuted? And does this make morals subjective?

Not a sin. A Christian can eat a human being.

Well it definitely would be considered unclean by old testament standards but according to the new testament we can eat just about anything. Now if you are talking about murder before hand rather than the individual dying of natural causes and then they were consumed. The sin would be the murder. Most anyone might be turned to cannibalism in extreme circumstance but the problem is as a Christian "Thou shalt not murder".
I do recommend Jack Daniels BBQ sauce on the ribs though and a nice bottle of Chianti.

Hi very good question.. the bible does not say clearly about this topic, however it is very clear when it says two things.. 1) You should not murder & 2) Do unto others as you wish they do unto you. 3) Love your neighbour. Also the bible metions that God gave to us many trees beering good fruit and that we can eat meats as long as it has been strained of its blood. given the above bible statements and for the fact that there is no direct mention about canniblalism, it should be considered an unclean and a unloving act towards another humna. Hope this answer sheds some light for you..bon appitiete !! David : )

the bible talks about cannibalism in the bible several times. The included link will take you to a web page that talks a little bit about what the bible says about cannibalism. It's usualy equated with people becoming extrememly selfish and horribly unbarable in thier behavior because of a bad situation brought on by sin. The bible definately speaks NEGATIVELY on cannibalism. These quotes are not from the KJV, I recomend looking them up in the KJV for a more direct translation of the language. I hope this helps someone
oh yeah, not to mention... "thou shalt not kill" is one of the ten commandments

i think as long as it is for survival then it would be ok, but not just because you think it tastes good on a hamburger bun. as for the bible, i'm not sure, i know famine is mentioned in the bible and historically cannibalism associates with famine, i think anytime thousands are without food someone going to be eaten, lol. sorry i guess that might have been rude. but, anyway it maybe wrong in the eyes of many, but i believe there are good and bad in all things. i think eating of human flesh to a "sane man" would be a last resort, but then you watch hannibal lecture he's a psycho, but hey if it boils his tea :)

There are two reasons why. The first is killing a fellow human to eat them is committing murder. A sin punishable by death by God Himself. The 2ND reason is humans fall into the "unclean" category in the food laws God wrote for mankind in the book of Leviticus chapter 11. God considers the human as an unhealthy food product,( just as bad as the pig), for other humans to eat as a food product for disease prevention purposes. But as crazy as it sounds. I don't think that in an emergency life or death situation, I don't think God would hold it against you if you and other survivors such as in a plane crash turned to cannibalism eating the already dead to survive until rescued.

2 Kings 6:25-28. It was not a common practice in the scriptures. These women were in a famine and they agreed to boil ones son and eat one day and eat the others the next. It did not happen the way it was planned so they went to the king. It made the king sick,he torn his clothes.

I don't think it says anthing. I would assume it would be ok if you weren't killing them to eat them. My english teacher last year told us about this book about these people hiking the andes and they ran out of food and had to tell the others if they were ok with them eating them when they died. They ended up doing it. It's a true story from the survivors. It's gross but if it's life or painful death I guess...

i can't find anything in the bible that speaks against it, to be honest. then again, that doesn't mean it's not there. since you mention it though, early christians were heavily persecuted for practicing the Eucharist. they were thought to have been cannibals because they believed in the Transsubstantiation (the presence of Christ), as do i.
edit- i'm glad for it, not proud of it. i don't go around claiming to be better than other people because of my faith. that kind of pride is sinful.

"Christian's claim that we get our moral code and ethics from the bible and the bible only, because man can not possibly think for themselves."
Talk about a straw-man argument. Most Christians don't believe this, and many would find the suggestion offensive.

It's looked on as a curse in the Old Testament, not a blessing. "And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat. And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you." (Lev 26:27-30)
