As husband and wife, God seems to have assigned us roles. We vetoed those roles and made our own. Would you agree with that? Why or why not?

If you agree with that can you please list some of the roles God has given to men and women as a married couple?

Thank you.

Here are some examples of what I’m talking about. I am wondering how many more (other then these) that today’s society vetoed?

Genesis 2
18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

Ephesians 5
22Wives, submit to your husbands
25Husbands, love your wives
33the wife must respect her husband

Colossians 3
18Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
19Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

Titus 2
2Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
4Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

It's more the division of body style suitable to role in the family.
the male has upper body strength which was, historically, suitable for building, hunting and fighting.
the female has pelvis and leg strength which is suitable for bearing children, comforting and carrying down low.

since the female is a weakened state, while bearing and raising children, it makes sense that God set the man over the home as both the protector and leader. The leader must be able to direct all attention outward while the female must be able to direct all attention inward (home).

I'll never understand why folks insist on taking the role of the opposite sex. The man cannot bear children and the woman's strengths are low to the ground, totally unsuitable for constant forward moves.

Not only are the skeletal structures different but so is the whole nerve network. Men see outward bound and women see inward bound. I mean does a guy really care if his pants make him LOOK fat?

Here's a test that shows there truly is a difference in the way the two sexes differ in structure.
Set a chair with its back to a wall. (lightweight chair)
Have a female stand with her legs touching the front on the chair. Lean over until your head is able to support your weight against the wall without touching anything with your hands. Reach down and grab the chair by both sides of the seat. Now stand upright while holding the chair.

Now let a male try this.

Yes I agree. As a wife I struggle with the my role as the world sees it and how it was created to be. What is missing is the attitude of submission. I am not saying that a wife has to be barefoot and pregnant. On the contrary many women of the Bible earned money. A wife however should be submissive to her husband in attitude. He is the leader of the home no matter the family work structure. We as wives are to submit lovingly to our husbands.

In the same way the husband is to be loving and respectful of his wife. To love her as Jesus loves the church. How does Jesus love? Yes he guides and directs. He also loves by nurturing and protecting.

Both sexes in a marriage have got the roles mixed up. Women trying to take charge. Men trying to rule with an iron fist.

I think that God intended for the man to work and the woman to be in the home, with the man as the spiritual head of the household. I agree that we've "vetoed" those roles.

I myself struggle with God's intended roles, because I'm a female with no interest in having children or being a housewife. Instead, I'm in my last year of law school and planning on working outside the home. However, if I were have children, I'd definitely want at least *one* parent to be in the home all the time. Otherwise my children would just be raised by babysitters or daycares...and I don't think that's the way it should be.

I believe God intended for man to be the bread winner and the wife to stay home and care for children and the home. It is the natural way of things and makes for a more harmonious home...When the wife works, the children and husband suffer....our children are left to grow up on their own without any guidance today...we just throw money at them....and not our time...it's a shame but the "So Called Modern Family" is not the way God wanted it to be.

Look at the ten commandments. All that God expects from you is there.

Other than love and obeying one another and a husband cannot stray from his spouse, there are no roles assigned. You are confusing what others may have said with Bible teachings.

God gave us rules for living and how to treat others so that we can live a moral life.

Here is a quote from the words of Erasmus:
"Truly the yoke of Christ would be sweet and the burden light, if petty human institutions added nothing to what he himself imposed. He commanded us nothing save love one for another."

Just to go and tell how much He loves us.

Show His love with ACTIONS, not WORDS.
I think that is what He expects. It's NOT hard.
But you have to DECIDE to believe in the Bible.
And God's promises.

Does "As husband and wife,." are you talking about the two of YOU?
That is kind of a far-fetched question.
I don't think you'll get the answer you are LOOKING for.
What 'roles',...?
I think if the two of YOU vetoed the roles and made YOUR own-then so be it.

( THE GREAT COMMISSION)
JESUS SAID, THEREFORE GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND TEACHING THEM TO OBEY EVERYTHING I HAVE COMMANDED YOU AND SURELY I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS , TO THE VERY END OF THE AGE.
