Fighting dogs is a hot issue. Is it equally cruel to hunt animals for sport?

Dog fighting is becoming more of a hot button issue. Dogs are virtually innocent creatures that should serve as a companion. Oftentimes they are used as an assistant in the recreational killing of other animals. Fighting dogs and roosters is no longer an acceptable form of entertainment. Why do people accept the killing of game for purposes other than food and warmth? How can a group of armed men chasing animals be considered a sport?

Hunters eat their kills or find someone who will.

Yes, they take the head as a trophy, but you don't eat the head anyway.

Also, game animals have EVOLVED to be hunted. If they aren't culled, they over breed and kill eco-systems.

Deer are responsible for more human death than Moutain Lions and bears COMBINED!
Don't feel sorry for them, really, their fine.

Fighting dogs are tortured.
They are beaten, starved, and forced to tear apart family members.
Gosh, that sounds nice doesn't it?

I live in the south and hunting is a part of life around here, people actually skip school and miss work on the opening day of hunting season. Personally I would never shoot an animal, but I do not have a problem with hunting. It is a sport that has been around as long as people have been around, and it is a right of passage for boys to men around here. It is not a blood sport the animals are not subjected to beatings to make them meaner. They are shot in a way that should kill them immediately and they are eaten so its not like they shoot them and leave them on the ground. There is a lot of pride and honor associated with hunting also, its very physical and you must have very good control to be quiet and still and not get overexcited. There are also a lot of laws that even the playing grounds for the animals. Dog and cock fighting is malicious and a blood sport. The animals are kept alive in atrocious conditions until they are forced to fight to there deaths. I really do not think that the two compare.

NO! Hunting is not cruel. What would be cruel would be if hunting was not allowed and the animals that normally would've been killed to control the population ended up starving to death because there were too many of them and not enough food. Hunting is NOTHING like dog or cock fighting. To hunt, you must be extremely patient, skilled and have enough sense to kill only what you will use and not kill young animals - take the older ones so the young population can thrive. Most hunters do not chase or stalk their prey unless rabbit or hog hunting(and yes, dogs are used to find the animal and bring the hunter to them), they sit in a stand for hours on end waiting for the animal to come across their path. You could sit out for an entire season and not see anything, much less a good candidate to kill.

People, hunting is a way of controlling the population of animals. If we don't hunt deer, rabbits, hogs, alligators, etc their populations will explode, and they will starve because of lack of food. We humans are taking away more and more of their habitats every day, so we MUST control the numbers of these animals. Also, I see nothing wrong with hunting if you are using the meat...that's what we do. I'd rather hunt them and eat them than let them die and rot on the ground. If you cannot see the REAL reason for hunting, please educate yourself...it can be very enlightening, and you will realize there is nothing wrong with ETHICAL hunters.

Hunting is not cruel if you are going out for food. I can remember, as a kid, going with my granddad for rabbit for dinner. I have slaughtered pigs to fill the freezer. I have taken the heads off of chickens to put them in the pot.
Fox hunting is cruel. Taking out a bunch of dogs to chase down a fox just to tear it apart. Trophy hunting is uncalled for.
Although c o c k and dog fighting are abhorrent they at least put two animals of equal intelligence against each other.
In my opinion the worst is bull fighting. Putting a human with high intelligence against a bull, dump as an ox. First torturing the bull and then killing it with a sword to the heart. The most disgusting thing I have ever seen. If you have never been to a bull fight, don't go.

i can understand you 100%. but who do we blame in this situation the anmals or humans? Humans have teached these animals how kill and hunt, they are just like children. if we teach a child to steal wont they learn and be a robber. i think that killing animals as a sport is wrong and menacing. whats the difference btwn killing animals for fun and torture, nothing. unfortuneatly killing animals for fun is legal, and we cant stop them. what fun is there in killing a creature...NOTHING! just like bull (Spain sport)fighting and deer hunting..it is legal and nothing can stop the killing and torturing spot. ppl that practice these things are idiots and incorrect. unless we take a stand nothing can really help, some of thse sports are considered a part of culture. think about this, othersd hunt so they can display the animals head in their living room like some kind ofdecoration, and other (JLO) choose to kill these innocent creatures for their fur. we are now in a new decade and era where we have cotton to warm and cover our bodies. we are not hunters and gatheres from the bc era, we are now civilized. unfortuneatly others see killing animals for decor and situations rather than food supply we need to survive.

PETA is great and they take a stand to protect animals.

I'm not crazy about hunting but at least it isn't tortuous to the animal. Dogs being subjected to fights are getting ripped apart over and over again and bred to repeat the process. Sometimes hunting is at least done to control animal populations and thin out herds. Fighting never has a purpose other than cruelty.

Can sure tell who has never set foot off of Main Street.
You will find that those that live in the country have completely different prospectives about wildlife than those that live in the city.

Let me ask you bunny huggers this,,,,, when was the last time you spent a day in the marsh building nesting boxes??
When was the last time you spent a day replanting a burned off hillside???
When was the last time you planted part of your own valuable property in habitat cover, or flooded it for waterfowl????

Be careful when you want to condemn people that enjoy hunting because there would be no wildlife to worry about without them.

If it fulfills a primitive need for men, then hunting animals whether for sport, or for food, it will always be acceptable. Like football, beer, and viagra, Billy Bob and Bubba ain't gonna quit doing just 'cause you don't agree it with.

Ever heard the word "Tradition", my daddy hunted, my grand daddy hunted, just like his daddy, and daddy's daddy before great grand daddy. They all hunted, just what they did. And, most of the time, the dang things ended up on the living room wall. Deer, squirrels, big-mouth bass, quail, and wild boar hogs, all mounted.

"How can a group of armed men chasing animals be considered a sport?" - If you can't get killed doing it, then it ain't considered a sport. Guess that makes it a sport!

I don't know.. I don't think people should hunt animals unless they intend to eat the meat.. A group of armed men running animals around and killing them.. if it's not for food.. Is in my mind no better than fighting animals..

I say no to that because God put animals on the earth to like be there but also maybe for food. If your going to eat the meat and it's entirety then go ahead and hunt. But don't do it for fun.
