I have a 1981 Ford Fairmont Futura. It has a Strait 6Cyl 3.3L 200CID 1-BBL engine in it. So far I have added a new Cherry Bomb muffler and custom exhaust from the Cat back. A K&N X-Flow Air cleaner assembly, New spark plug wires, Spark plugs, Fuel Filter, Oil filter, And a new crank case breather. I also plan to put a new 3000 CFM Electric fan and 1 or 2 hood scoops to try and cool the motor off some. I would like to know if there are a few more options for me to get more power out of it without getting too expensive. It has been quite a challenge so far for me to find parts for a '81 Futura. It came stock with 94 HP. But with my mods so far I think I am around 120-130 HP. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your advice.

you can run premium fuel and octane boosters and then turn up the timing advace to 15 degrees. that's good for 15 hp. Ford retarded the cam on some of these motors and you can advance it back to regain some more hp.

Header are good for 10-12 hp and as a bonus sound good. You can find used or new carb adapters for a larger carb or even a 2 barrel. There was a large single used on Ford vans.
Get a cam and head from a 65 Mustang, they had 120 hp at 9:1 cr. we used get the solid lifters from a Falcon 170, they are good for 5k rpm
check out my group and Clifford link pluss some great modified sixs in the photo albums

Have you considered a 250 from the 69-70 Mustang? they made 155 hp stock. http://home.pon.net/hunnicutt/history_eng.htm

The 200 is great motor with lots of low end torque and I once owned one myself. But if you really want power you need to drop a 302 in there. Yes I know how you feel I have been there but trust me this is no comparing an 8 to a 6, you just need to forget that engine and get an 8 with a nice cam and then you can run with the big boys!

Hey John, 'I feel your pain"! The need for speed, etc, etc. Are ya wanting a quicker car, say 0-60, or do you want top end (120+mph)? Easiast way for either one is change the rear end gear ratio. For quicker go with a ring and pinion in the 4:56 up to the ,say 5:13 or taller gears and use low profile tires. For top end speed go with a taller sidewall tire(check speed rating as not all tires will handle high speeds without " blowing" and get a gear ratio like 2:73, 2:52 and so forth and so on. It will be slow on the takeoff but will top out real nice

I don't know much that will help on a small cubic inch smog motor like this one. A bigger carb would help but you can't pour a ton of gas into the engine and expect power. I would consider the obvious..Put in a V8. It should be a bolt in since this car was available with a 302. Find junkyard parts for the swap.

Change from the 1 barrel carb to a big 2 barrel, like a 500 cfm, if they make an intake for that engine.... thats about it, it looks like you covedered evrything except a cam.... and maybe milling the head down for more compression.

Easy: upgrade to a 2bbl carb and add headers. Then you change the gear ratio. Voila!
