We just knocked the wall out between our living room and dining room for more space because our house is kinda small. We have medium pine wood floors and our sectional is a stone khaki color and our TV cabinet is black. What color should we paint our walls in the whole area? Keep in mind it is about 400 sq feet. I thought about camel tan with barn red accessories. What do you think- I'm gonna start painting Friday while my kids are in school.

The camel with red sounds good, but maybe consider more of a brick red - barn red to me sounds a bit bright for the space. Another comforting & enlarging color would be sage green with white trim. Either way, paint the ceilings white also to give the rooms a sense of airiness & space.

The place is too small for any dark or dramatic colors. Any time you use dark or dramatic colors, the space will seem smaller. To counter this effect try lighter tans and maybe accent with a medium color.

Judge for yourself- go to http://www.coloradofauxpainting.com/fauxpaintingcolor.html and click on the Bennie-Moore link.

This will open a new window and give you a interactive color viewer. You can choose the type of room and then play with color combinations or upload photos of your own and do it.

Enjoy :)

I am thinking...

pine floor
stone khaki sofa
black TV
brick red accessories
small house

I agree....camel tan for the walls, except one. I would choose the most uninterrupted wall and paint it a grayish sage green so as to compliment all you have going on here and make the room look larger by not being so "defined" by four walls.

You already have black, and stone khaki. A warm caramel might work well, or a leaf green or lemon or peach. I think adding camel will give you a bunch of flat colors, like a pile of rocks.
Barn red will go with all the colors I suggested.

I like the camel with the red accents, but I would wonder if the sofa would "disappear" since they both seem to be neutral colors. IMHO, I think something a little bit brighter, like "colonial yellow" by Sherwin Williams would look better, and it still coordinates well with red.

Beige is a very suitable color for all types of occasions, lifestyles and persons. It is also the best background color if you are to do color-combinations in your living room. You can mix it with crimson red, or black or other soft palettes to suit it with your kids' preferences.
