It's all about Public Relations. Sponsors don't want someone that has an attitude. I don't think the private Jr. is the same person as the public Jr.

Absolutely not!!! Junior may not get along with her & never did. This decision was all his. He is a real great guy who happens to have respect for others even if there is a rift, he also has manners which you do not see a lot of now days.
Watch the 60 Minutes segement he did after the wreck & fire he was in at Fontana. He believes in God which makes him an even better person. He thought his Dad pulled him from the car.
Junior is his own man & wants it to stay that way. Can't say as I blame him. He asked his fans to lighten up. People bashing accomplishes what???
Why not ask if he will make the Chase or not! Makes sense to me instead of following gossip.

I think its funny. 2 weeks ago all the Jr fans were calling for Theresa's blood. Now all of a sudden Jr opens his mouth and people are saying "yea....we should just back off."

If Jr said aliens came down and played a game of kickball with Elvis and JFK, his fans would believe him!

No, the real reason he wants people to stop badmouthing Teresa is because of his little sister Taylor. This kid is caught in the middle between her brother and mother in this whole situation. I agree with the Marty Smith comment, I can talk about my family but when someone else does, trouble is about to start. I respect Dale, Jr's request not to bad mouth her even if I think she is doing him wrong.

No. I believe that family matters need to stay in the family.
Remember that the "8" belongs in the Earnhardt family. Jr. is only one of four children the Sr. had. If DEI gives the "* away, they may never get it back.
We do not know the whole story and maybe never will. Let it rest. PLEASE.
Teresa Earnhardt is still the widow of Dale Sr. She is responsible for DEI.

I think it has a lot to do with family. Whether he and the fans like it or not Teresa is family. Hell, she's the mother of his half-sister Taylor. And he doesn't want all this bad blood in his family. The decision to not relinquish the #8 was a business decision, and people are attacking Teresa on a much more personal level. I think Junior's just fed up with it all and wants it to end.

The 8 issue has been settled, bashing is not going to change anything...

I think we all need to just let it go bacause it is not our business the fan's and other people need to stay out of it just like if someone got in to my business i would say the samething. All jr want is to move on and we as fan's of nascar need to let him. for him and he's half-sister. He is not doing it for tereasa but for he's own peace of mind and for a clean break.

I dont think Teresa told him to, I think its more so that he can either A. Look more like the classy person thought all of this, or B. Just because even though its his step-mother, its STILL a mother none-the-less.

No I think he is just a decent person and doesn't feel that she deserves the criticism. Marty Snider had a good point: I can say whatever I want about my family, but when someone outside the family says something, I stand up for my family
