Many Americans find in Israelis someone we can relate to, because we are both nations pretty unpopular around the world. Furthermore, the origin of American culture was a mass migration from Europe over several centuries to escape various kinds of persecution; and so the Israeli plight, which makes that of our own forefathers seem so small in comparison, has captured our hearts and caused us to want to do whatever we can to help them.

I'm sure some might think this is Prejudice B. S. but I'll give it a go anyway...our country was ORIGINALLY founded on Godly principle by Godly men and through most of the this country's history Godly men have been at the helm. With that in mind we have to look at what the Bible tells us to do in regards to Israel...I believe that that is why America has always backed Israel. And I pray that we will continue to do so, otherwise we are just asking for the wrath of God.

If the christian religion is to see the end of times, there has to be an "Israel," right ? Ever since the 40's the U.S. has been helping these peoples and you can't have a powerful religion like christianity RETAIN it's following without a nation WRITTEN within it's beliefs. After 19 centuries, we have an ISRAEL again so now the leadership of christian sects can keep their hands in the pockets of it's followers with this fear of the end of days.....
One fact I have stated to colleagues who have said that Israel is so overwhelmed with people who do not like Jews and we in the U.S. NEED to support these peoples or they would be eraticated IS, that it hasn't happened YET and never will. Hitler killed millions of the Jewish peoples but there are Jewish peoples throughout the WORLD. I had a friend once tell me that there would not be any Jewish peoples if the U.S. was not helping Israel and I told him, it is NOT the U.S. what keeps Jewish peoples "around" it is the religion of christianity and the MERCY of the muslims who have had many chances to kill every Jew in the region but never HAVE. When you see a nation such as Israel "surrounded" by muslim nations and only a few bothering it, you have to know that NOTHING the U.S. has ever done or could ever do is what is keeping the faithful of Allah from eradicating every person of the Jewish faith in the region from earth, it is the fact many muslims are not terrorists and ARE faithful to their God. I used to have an ex brother in law in secret service whom the U.S. used to send to Israel from time to time to protect the prime minister and he used to say that we as Americans don't know how fortunate the Jewish peoples are that Arabs are not as violent as everyone thinks they are. It is "he" who gave me the perspective I stated.

Israel is a tiny place, roughly 1/6 the size of Oklahoma. Since their returning to "The State of Israel" in 1948, they have had at least 4 wars (in addition to the constant turmoil), yet they have not been the aggressor..
They are the only democracy in a sea of Arab nations, where we have national interests (oil). If not for Israel, the hostiles would run the entire Middle East.
Israel is our strongest allie within the United Nations. They vote with our interests in the UN, more often than England, France, Canada or Germany.
Israel is an agricultural oasis in the Middle Eastern desert. They export great amounts of food to other regions. They have people who are quite advanced in technology. It is too our benefit to befriend her.
There are also "religious" reasons.........but in my own opinion, we do not "always" support her well, I have seen two American presidents sell her short, stopping just short of betrayal.
This is my personal opinion, and I can not direct you to a news site, but I suspect that the American government feels like they could done something, sooner, to rescue them during the holocaust.

Israel is in effect a tool of US military policy in the Middle East. It gave them an excuse for putting a large army close to the Oil Fields and to the Suez Canal.
Until middle eastern Oil somehow ceases to be important to the world economy or the USA succeeds in conquering the rest of the middle east Israel has a platinum credit card
If oil ever ceases to matter and if the Global warming opens the North West passage to shipping as seems likely then the Suez Canal will not be so important and support for Israel will disappear.
------------
All of the religious B.S. is just B.S.
Christianity still regards Judaism as a competing religion and if it was not for the usefulness of the State of Israel to Europe and USA the Christians would be just like they were towards them in 1936.

Why shouldn't we back Israel? 6 million Jews are slaughtered in about 2 1/2 years, they needed a place to go and feel safe. Israel was their God given right. It's a tiny state surrounded by other nations that want to destroy it. Israel declared its independence and the very next day it was attacked by Arab countries. Israel won and won again in 1956, '67, '73. Israel has a right to exist despite its neighbors. The US has said that about a Palestinian state also. We are so unfair, huh?
God Bless.

It would take considerable time to show you why I would say thins, but Israel is linked with God in a spiritual sense. And so are the US and the UK. We share that link. Know that it is not about oil. And money can be gathered from many other nations; perhaps in greater amounts. There is a technology factor to the equation, mainly because the Jewish designers are capable of thinking out of the box.
But the real reason is inexplicable by normal standards. We are linked together: Christian nations and a Jewish 'state'. It was foretold a long time ago, and it is fulfilled now. More things will come of it, but I won't go into those. The fact is: we are not capable of making things this way by chance.

I am sorry but I have never been able to understand these types of questions.
I mean its like asking why dose England always back Australia? The answer is it dosent.
We are not talking about individuals here we are talking about democratic states whose foreign and domestic policy constantly shifting based on its electorate.
The result is Israel and America often dont back themselves (look at the congress and Bush) and you think that two nations are going to constantly agree?
Look at the UN voting record of both Israel and the US while similar I bet they are different.

Because there are a bunch of Zionist Christians in this country who hope they can cause Armegeddon by arming Israel to the teeth. They think that if this happens it will cause jesus to return sooner.
After having read everyone else's answers on this question I am going to stick to my guns on this issue. They just don't get it. The Christians will push Israel into a nuclear confrontation if they think Jesus is coming. This is why religion and the belief in God is dangerous to civilization. It is self fulfilling prophecy; a prophecy that they will make come true. In the end there won't be any Jesus coming back because it is all a fairytale, but there will be a lot of dead people.
This is the same kind of mentality that causes other people to fly airplanes into buildings.

The US backs Israel because it is a democratic nation, the only country genuinely ruled by the people in all of the Mideast. Moreover, Americans tend to cheer for the underdog, and little Israel has been the chosen victim for all the Arab nations that surround it (though those nations have learned, after a series of losing wars, that Israel packs a wallop). Finally, most Americans understand that Israel worships the true God, who bestows human rights and freedom, rather than a false god who rewards terrorism and demands theocracy.
