In Matthew 5:21-28, Jesus equates committing adultery with having lust in your heart, and committing murder with having hatred in your heart. However, this does not mean the sins are equal. What Jesus was trying to get across to the Pharisees was that it is still sin even if you only think about or want to do the act. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day taught people that it was okay to think about anything you wanted to, as long as you did not act on those desires. Jesus is forcing them to realize that God judges a person’s thoughts as well as their actions. Jesus proclaimed that our actions are the results of what is in our hearts (Matthew 12:34).
So, although Jesus said that lust and adultery are both sins – that does not mean they are equal. It is much worse to actually murder a person than it is to simply hate them – even though they are both sinful in God’s sight. There are degrees to sin. Some sins are worse than others. At the same time, in regards to both eternal consequences and salvation, all sins are the same. Each and every sin will lead to eternal condemnation (Romans 6:23). All sin, no matter how “small,” is against an infinite and eternal God, and is therefore worthy of an infinite and eternal penalty. Further, this is no sin too “big” that God cannot forgive it. Jesus died to pay the penalty for sin (1 John 2:2). Jesus died for ALL of our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). Are all sins equal to God? Yes and no. In severity? No. In penalty? Yes. In forgivability? Yes.

Why Christians Must Steal From Secular Morality:
http://www.caseagainstfaith.com/submissions/steal_morality.htm
Christians must steal their moral rules from secular morality. They have no choice, as the Bible does not offer a moral system, it only offers a series of contradictory commands and a supposed threat of punishment in the "afterlife" for not following them - a punishment that is given equally to all violators - whatever the sin.
The Bible does nothing and can do nothing towards inculcating moral behavior on its own. Christians must steal from secular moral systems, and then merely graft their 'God threats' on top of this moral system. This is necessary. And the reason for this is simple: there is no morality in the Bible and there can be no morality in the Bible, because the Bible holds that 1) ALL 'sins' are equivalent (destroying any moral sense) AND 2) all moral behavior is immaterial, because works cannot save a person, AND finally all people are damned from birth.
In reality, Christians realize that some actions are more moral than others. They realize that moral actions exist in a hierarchy, and that rape is far worse than stealing a pencil. Yet the Bible holds that all 'sins' are equal, as all deserve the same punishment.
Christians also realize that humans can be moral agents... they expect moral behavior from others, and they view their own children as something to value. Yet the Bible holds that man is worthless, that he cannot be a moral agent, and that his sole salvation comes from grace. However, since Christians realize, implicitly, that all of these these points are obviously, prima facie false, they must steal from secular systems, that hold that 1) man obviously has a value 2) all 'sins' are obviously not equivalent and 3) a person cannot be held to be doing anything 'immoral' without intent.

According to the bible all sins will keep you from entering heaven. all sin is separation from God and is missing the mark. According to the bible only hearing, believing, repenting and being baptized can make you a Christian and thus being born again. but even then one must walk in newness of life.
According to the bible the serial killer, murderer and the most vile sinner that repents, etc will enter heaven while us non Christians who have lived good lives and served others selfishly will enter hell.

All sin has the same result....death, unless you ask forgiveness and accept Jesus gift of salvation.
But there are some sins that God hates the most...these are
called "abominations" in the Bible. God absolutely DESPISES these things....
A PROUD LOOK
A LYING TONGUE
HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD
A HEART THAT DEVISETH WICKED IMAGINATIONS
FEET THAT BE SWIFT RUNNING TO MISCHIEF
A FALSE WITNESS THAT SPEAKETH LIES
HE THAT SOWETH DISCORD AMONG BRETHREN
THE PRAYER OF SOMEONE WHO TURNS HIS EAR
FROM HEARING THE LAW
THE THOUGHTS OF THE WICKED
SOMEONE THAT LIES WITH MANKIND AS WITH
WOMANKIND
ANY DEALINGS WITH THE OCCULT
MONEY FROM PROSTITUTION BROUGHT TO CHURCH
SOMEONE WHO MAKES AN IDOL
MEN WEARING WOMEN'S CLOTHES
WOMEN WEARING MEN'S CLOTHES
A DIVORCED MAN REMARRYING HIS XWIFE

Prov.15:26

Yes, sin is sin, there are no degree of which is greater or lesser. The Law is exactly given for this purposes - to show up the inadequacy of men who try to keep the Law.
It is just impossible! The Sacrifice Lamb every years in Judaism is just a type and fore-shadow of the True Lamb of God, Jesus of Nazareth, The Christ who came and took away the sins of the world once and for all.

It's true in God's eyes. We don't see that here on earth. The book of Matthew says that hating someone in your heart is the same as killing them.
I think on earth, we receive more punishment for certain sins, but every sin committed is equally offensive to Jesus.

All but one of the sins are equal.
(For that I got 2 thumbs down?)
Mark 3:29 in the Bible.
Thank you other posters for giving me the correct word to look it up-blasphemy-since I could not find the reference under Holy Spirit or sin. 8:)
While sins are equal (except one) they are not the same with regards to consequences: Matthew 18:6
"But who so shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me..."
I will leave it for those who do not know to look it up. They then are more likely to remember it.

Yes.
The soul who sins shall die. Ezek. 18:20
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. Heb. 9:27
We are judged by the Ten Commandments.
Ever told a lie?
Ever hated anyone? See 1 John 3:15
Ever lusted after someone? See. Matt. 5:27-28
Ever blasphemed?
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. James 2:10
Lawbreakers go to hell.
But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Rev. 21:8
This is clear and humbling. However God made a way so we wouldn't have to go to hell. Jesus (God in flesh) came to earth, lived a sinless life, and was crucified on our behalf. He rose three days later defeating death and in turn giving us an escape route from hell. But Jesus did command us to repent. That means to turn from sin to God. The perfect example of repentance is found in Psalm 51.
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15
I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Luke 13:3
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3
You see when you repent God gives you a new heart and new desires and they are desires to serve Him. As a result you are biblically born again! That my friend is good news!

Nope, there is one that stands out from the rest....
If you blaspheme the Holy Ghost, you are done for....
Matthew 12:31-32
31Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Gee, murder, rape, stealing, etc is forgivable, but this isn't.... makes sense???
