No answer on an elapsed time period would be exact. There are too many variables. Your own genetic code influenced by your ancestors tendencies towards cancer. Your daily and lifetime consumption of antioxidants. Your daily and lifetime consumption of toxins and carcinogens related and unrelated to chewing tobacco. Etc. The question you might want to consider is when would be the best day to stop. I think that would be the day before you start. Besides, why would you want stained teeth, bad breath, and deteriorated gums. I used to chew as well so good luck stopping.

It could be immediate depending on how the chewing tobacco affects or irritates the mouth. There is a pre-cancerous condition that can show up almost from the beginning called Leukoplakia:

NCI: Leukoplakia definition

"leukoplakia (LOO-koh-PLAY-kee-uh)

An abnormal patch of white tissue that forms on mucous membranes in the mouth and other areas of the body. It may become cancerous. Tobacco (smoking and chewing) and alcohol may increase the risk of leukoplakia in the mouth."

Chewing cancer is not a guarantee of cancer, but it significantly increases the risks of a variety of cancers.

How long before you see effects??? Depends on the effect.

The effect of looking like an idiot because you chew tobacco is immediate.

The effect of looking crude as you need to continually spit in public, again this is immediate.

The staining of teath and fouling of breath so anyone in their right mind would find it distasteful to kiss you, very rapid.

No one can really say how long it would be before the effects were to take place. Each individual is different. That's like there are people who smoke their whole lives and don't get sick from it, yet others end up with cancer or emphysema, even after quitting.
