Jeremiah 4:23-27:
23. I beheld the earth, and indeed it was without form, and void; and the heavens, they had no light.
24. I beheld the mountains, and indeed they trembled, and all the hills moved back and forth.
25. I beheld, and indeed there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens had fled.
26. I beheld, and indeed the fruitful land was a wilderness, and all its cities were broken down at the presence of the LORD, by His fierce anger.
27. For thus says the LORD: "The whole land shall be desolate; yet I will not make a full end.

In verse 1, the Bible says, "and the earth was without form and void." The same is repeated here in Jeremiah 4. Could this be an account of what happened before the Creation?

i also believe that here's about a prophecy, but in deed, in genesis, the difference between verses 1&2 and 2&3, might be a real, material one. it is biblicaly believed that the earth has thousnads of years of age, while scientists acclaim this is impossible. i actually understood that when one of them stated "'how is it that there are astronomical objects more than 6000 light-years away?"... but the first verse in genesis refers to God's creative act and some theologians believe that between verses 1&2 something happened to render the earth "formless&empty". also, the verb "to be" is disputed, for having different, relative meanings in hebrew, like "to become", so the NIV alternate version is "the earth became formless&empty". so that would indicate a time difference between the original creation described in verse 1 and the time leading to the creation of man beginning in verse2. still, we are not told exactly what could had happened, but the Bible hints that the original creation was followed by widespread destruction brought about the rebellion of Lucifer, who became Satan (Isaiah 14:12-15), while the account of genesis is apparently a description of a restoration. so, actually, in Jeremiah it could be a recall of the very beginning, cosidering also the punishment of sin, concerning world's sin- nowadays or more.
sorry if i answered more your "additional detail";))

War. In the verses before that the shofar is blown to warn of a distant country north of Israel that is coming to destroy them. The description sounds like an atomic bomb. Only something like that can do instant destruction. Or God if He wanted to do it Himself. But the mountains shake and the land is like a desert and the tents are suddenly destoryed in an instant.

Hmmmmmm.. Ok, I , and I say *I* see it as this...... the whole chapter is about the People of Israel and Gods warning to them about turning from him , being an adulterous nation..... they have been among the *thorns*...... in verses 23-27, I *believe* he is describing the beginning of the end..... He is comparing what he saw before he created the earths inhabitants, men and animals, to what he will see when he turns his people, Israel, out of their land..... it will be desolate, all the fruit, (people) will become a wilderness, (gone) from his holy sight as a people........ He will spread them throughout the foreign lands, but will bring them back some day.......... just my humble thoughts...... go in peace..... God bless

Jeremiah was a prophet that the lord used to warn his people that they were to soon be taken captives or killed and the cities laid to waste this was centuries before Jesus Christ came in the flesh. It is fine that you are reading the holy text and I am glad to assist the new/young Christians with in difficult bible lessons - peace be with you and continue to grow in your chosen Christians ways. AMEN!

I think it sounds like prophecy about the time of the end. The Earth will be desolate but will not be destroyed. It wil be cleansed of the wicked. It is to be a joyful time for those who follow God and Christ.
