My cat's have always cost me around $200 the first year...that includes everything(shots, deworming, spay/neuter, and declawing-not an option everyone goes for) but that is broke up over 4 visits also with the spay/neuter/declawing visit being the most expensive. It cost me about $20 a year for additional years for updating shots. But everywhere has different pricing.

A standard checkup which includes the vet checking the cat's body, bladder, internal organs (by feel), teeth, eyes, ears and nose costs $35 here.

A rabies shot is $15, a distemper shot is $12. A stool sample brought in is looked at and if there's worms that they find, they prescribe the right worming medicine which varies from $8 to about $18. If there's fleas, a $10 dose will clear that up for over 2 months.

But your base cost would be $35 or so. You can certainly call a vet inthe phone book and ask what they charge, they'll tell you up front what the rates are. And you can call around to different vets too, to find what's high and what's low for your area.

The initial visit for exam and deworming is covered by a regular office visit. Shots might be a little extra and you will want to have the kitten start on its series of three shots.

The cost of an office visit or exam is $44 for me here. You have to call your local vets to find out what they charge.

At my practice, if your kitten was just getting an exam and deworming, it would cost you around $60. If your kitten needs anything else (like a leukemia/aids test or a vaccine), those things are additional. The vet or vet staff will be able to tell if you need anything additional. Then you can ask them for an estimate of the cost.

Just keep in mind that you are looking for a place that practices good medicine, not cheap medicine. :-)

It differs from vet to vet. Your best bet is to call around and see what the prices are.

it really depends on the vet. find a vet near you in the yellow pages or find a reliable one from a friend and call.
