Then why bother to answer the question?
That means we are held captive by capricious will

G-d is eternal and unchanging. What G-d has promised G-d will deliever. There is no doubt.
I shudder when a Christian talks about G-d's everlasting covenant with the Jews, yet they then say that G-d changed and sent Jesus. That G-d is unchanging yet changing at the same time. It doen't make sense.
In this view it makes G-d seem indecisive, a wavering, not all powerful deity. It makes G-d's word not everlasting but changing. It takes away G-d's own power to say that these things are so.

I've had people say "It's in God's hands" in response to a question, which I take as being no answer at all. But I haven't heard it worded the way you illustrate it.
I remember Tennessee Williams always ended his show by saying he would be back next week "If the good Lord's willin' and the creek don't rise." (There I go, showing my age again!)

I would imagine the phrase would become boring in very short order. If the person uttering that sentence truly believes in whatever version fits, why do they need to tell you about it? Is that a "born again" tactic or a conversation ender? Whatever it is or isn't it's a total bore!

i think that if you think that god's going to make a decision, then that's the one you'll make. so, i could tell you that god told me to say "behgjvraj kerc" or i could say he didn't. there's no one to tell me different because no one is God. it's like saying "you will meet the love of your life while wearing red shoes." then, if you wear red shoes for the rest of your life, of course you'll be meeting the love of your life while wearing red shoes! so, it doesnt matter what someone else says because it's not up to them, is it?

Never heard that phrase...maybe you could elaborate. What's true is true and I've never heard otherwise.

I think it's crap. Something is either true or it isn't. It doesn't require some non-existant god muddling around with it.
