It shows that people shall be accountable for their actions.

Gonzo counseled Bush to ignore the US Constitution in continuing to usurp his Commander-in-chief powers in areas such as continued occupation of Iraq and torturing POW's in Gitmo and other undisclosed areas.

Gonzo ignored the US Constitution by obtaining wiretaps without a magistrate's signature.

Gonzo lied to the Senate and to the American public.

Now, Gonzo is Gone.

The resignation of an Attorney General impacts "society" only when it also changes the policies of the US Department of Justice. Cabinet Secretaries come and go, all the time, for all sorts of reasons, and most of the time it makes no difference beyond the office in which they work. There are approximately 1.5 million Federal employees in the Executive Branch, and only 2-3,000 of them are Presidential appointees. The rest are professional civil servants who go by the laws and regulations, not by White House policy. In the case of the AG, he has some impact over the types of crimes which get more emphatic investigation and which get less, he makes decisions about budget requests for the agencies in his department, and he can boss around the FBI if the FBI Director lets him.. However, the way our government works is not like a corporation or the Army - the guy at the top is not in unquestioned charge, and does not have the power to just fire anybody in his organization when he wants. Most civil servants are protected from being fired, and are required to follow the rules no matter what the "boss" says. So, Gonzales being in or out has only limited effect anyhow. Things change a lot only when the Presidency changes hands, because he picks those 2-3,000 people whom he appoints.

They say accountable for their actions. Why then did the media ignore the media hype when Bill Clinton fired 97 federal prosecutors in one day. Gonzales fires 7 Clinton fires 97 and a big deal is raised over Gonzales. Typical left wing news reporting.

None. Even the RATS know the ship is sinking, the top 3 positions in the AG office are vacant or when Gonzo goes will be vacant. Currently the Administration has 50 departments looking for leaders, yet no takers! You wonder why? The rats know when a ship is sinking...

Someone succeeded in forcing the ridding of Alberto Gonzales.
I hope his replacement isn't worse.

It's a huge relief. The rule of law will hopefully be restored--the management of the Justice Department will hopefully vastly improve. His policies have seriously served to erode civil liberties in this great nation. He pretty much was an inept administrator and even worse leader.
