A viscometer is an instrument for measuring the viscosity of a fluid by seeing how much energy is needed to shear through it.
I don't see a brand name Rodin but here is web link to Grace that claims to be big in that field. http://www.graceinstrument.com/m3500.htm
I also found one that uses a falling rod instead of a rotating cup to measure the shear force of printing inks. http://www.ryerson.ca/~mbreede/outline034.html

Maybe it's not wrong. I couldn't find anything even when I entered "direct reading viscometer" without Rodin. I have no idea what a viscometer is, but I am a researcher by profession, and I would say there is just not much information on this subject online. Hope that helps.
Additional Information: Instead of just googling it, you may want to access a journal database through your university's library system. This will give you the info you need. Good luck!

Rod In may well be the issue. A viscometer is simply a tool for measuring fluid resistance, or thickness. A rod in direct reading viscometer is likely a tool that measures viscosity by measuring the deflection of a rod inserted into a liquid and then moved at a fixed rate.
Just a guess, but gives ye something more to go on, and good luck!

this wouldn't have anything to do with Dr. Gregory J. Rodin and his interest in multi-scale modeling of solids and fluids?

Are you sure it wasn't two words, "rod in" ? Don't focus on the word rodin, focus on the viscometer.
