I heard that short hair chi's only reach up to like 7lbs?

the akc standard is no bigger than 6lb I believe. But if it is poorly bred (bigger than standard) or overweight- they can reach 10-12lb or more.

the weight difference is the same for boththe long hair and short hair.
the standard says they should not be over 7 pounds however they can actually at times fall back to the larger breed tehy were bred down from. I personally know of one that grew to be a 25 pound chihuahua.this was definately a purebred AKC reg dog.
Teh breeder had 8 generations back and all but this one never got over 6 pounds even his sister was full grown at 41/2 pounds and a show dog .

Breed standard is up to 6 lb. Of course some will be larger than the standard. I have seen pix of a VERY OVERWEIGHT chihuahua that was 25 lb!! Breed standard is the same whether the dog is long coat or smooth coat.

It also depends on the size of the dog. Whether it's a long hair or short hair doesn't make any difference.

When your Chihuahua is fully grown it will be 6 pounds max and be 7-8 inches max.
