I was thinking of switching to Aviation Ordnance, but don't know if it is a good rate?!. I'll be 25 after my enlistment i figure i might just do school!(score was avg. but not good enough for technical jobs).

Guarantee? no. Likely? yes. The only way you'd be "guaranteed" to go to Iraq is if you volunteered to go there.

I'm not a seabee, but from the ones I know of, they are gone on deployments a lot. But if you change your mind about what you want to be while in DEP, you can change your mind to a different rate if you want. The recruiter can't stop you form changing rates before you go in, you can even delay your ship-out date further if your waiting for another rate to open up.

You'll have a lesser chance of going than in most other branches, and the deployments are shorter, especially since you'll be assigned to a ship....so you may be "over" there in Iraq....but not have to leave the ship :)

There are Seabees in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of Provisional Reconstruction teams. Some in Iraq have (sadly) become casualties.

I've been in Baghdad for a year. I think I've seen three Seabees in that time.
