My fiance and I are getting married on August 23rd 2008. We want to go Vegas on the Wednesday before and get married on Saturday then spend the rest of the time there for a total of like 1 week and a half. Then when we come back have a BBQ reception. How does that sound?

That's not too cheap. If that's your style, it's what you want, and you feel your friends and family will have a great time at the BBQ, then that's absolutely the way to go. It's not about how much money you spend, it's about what you want and how much fun you'll have doing it.

Hi. Why not do it the other way around? Get married with family and friends and have a BBQ reception and then go to Vegas for your honeymoon. Vegas is NOT cheap unless you really go to the out of the way hotels. Have you been there before? Are you big gamblers? You need to seriously think about getting married WITHOUT your family and friends. Many have done this and then regret it...then want to do it again in front of family and friends a year later because "they never got to." Just make sure that is what you want, and if it is, then go for it!

We are doing the same thing! We are getting married in Vegas in 3 weeks, then coming home and having a casual bbq/pool party the following week. Do what suits the 2 of you and have a great time!

Congrats!

There is no limit on how many parties you may throw to celebrate your marriage. You must only avoid giving any appearance that the purpose of these parties is to "shake down" your aquaintance for gifts rather than to share your joy. Having a huge BBQ after you marry and honeymoon in another city seems a splendid way to share that joy. Just warn folks to wear "sauce friendly" clothing!

It is your wedding do it however you want!!! I am shy so I think going to Vegas alone or with just close friends would be so much nicer than a huge wedding. I would just make sure it is video taped and maybe show it at the reception.

I think its nice, and if it's what you want, you will be much happier than spending months and months on a wedding you didnt really want. People are doing desitination weddings all the time and then having a reception when they return. Sound like fun to me! good luck

Why not just go to Vegas for a short honeymoon and have a ceremony before your reception like a normal wedding. I'm not sure that doing it your way would save you any money. In fact it probably will cost more.

that sounds great! You can have you specail time together, and then you can have a party where everybody can see you as husband and wife. sounds like it would be a great way to eliminate all of the wedding stress (not just your own stresses, but also that of guests, trying to save dates and such) and it'll cut down costs!
I think it's a great idea!
Best wishes!!!
