I have been thinking about getting a perm, but im not sure. I got a perm a couple years ago, but it wasn't done by a professional so of course it didn't turn out as good as it could have. My hair is a lot longer now... it's also very straight and i just want more volume so i was thinking a perm could be cute. Does anyone know anything about perms... have u had one? did you like it? and did it damage your hair a lot?.. what kind of perm looks best? .. and any other information would be greatly appreciated.. im just trying to get all the info. before i get a perm bc i worked hard on growing my hair out and i really dont want to ruin it!.. thanks =)

Some things to consider:

Pros - when done correctly a perm can add a lot of body to your hair & allow you to try hair styles that wouldn't work w/ your natural hair texture.

Cons - the smell, the time & money involved, the 10-15 days it takes for the perm to settle down, the need to learn how to style it & work w/ it if you've never had one before, the need for conditioners, etc. to keep your permed hair from drying out.

Go through a lot of fashion & hair magazines to get a clear idea of what you want. Bring a photo w/ you & consult w/ the hair stylist before making an appt. for a perm. Ask about maintenance - type of perm she'd recommend - let her know you've not had one before & explain you want a conservative approach.

I just got a perm. Liked it after the stylist blow dried it. Hated it the next few days. Am sorta liking it better. I have thick hair & should have let it grow longer so I could just get a really loose body wave.

to add volume you can get your hair lyered and have them texture it. try useing a volume shampoo and conditioner I recomend redken . I have had a perm and it turned out good but maintance its the key! you should not wash your hair for at least a day or two. and you should brush hair starting from your ends moving up that way there is less breakage! Good luck!!!!

NO! i love you.

Perms damage your hair too da max!

I think you should just curl your hair by yourself or get a pro to do it. Non perms.

you should try to curl your hair for a few days before making the decision

Have you tried a curling iron? If I were you, that's what I'd do.
