I think those who want Mexico to reclaim these land are idiotic. They claim that we stole these land, but ignore that these land was stolen from the native. They didn't even have a strong hold. InCalifornia, Mexico only had a firm control on the coast, while the natives hold he inland areas. Mexico, almost lost California to the native, but the Natives got wiped out by disease. As with the rest of Indian history, there was a question if it was a biological attack. US onle was able to take California, because Mexico was so weakened by the Natives.

That story has been going around forever all land they claim we bought so it is mute. But, it they had California and Texas they would just have more land, it wouldn't change anything for them they would still be a third world welfare country to the rest of the USA.
It is all silliness. Actually the Russian were in Northern Calif. before Mexicans were there.

It's true, though the term "conquered" is more appropriate in this context. But conquering is basically just stealing or subjugating with military force. Of course, the U.S. also honesty and rightfully purchased some land from mexico, but most of the ex-mexican territory that is now part of the U.S. was conquered by force.

FIRST I WANT TO SAY TO MINUTEMAN " GO KISS SOME MAGNETS YOU MONSTER"!!! HE LOOKS LIKE A MERCENARY WITH THAT HUMMER.
Anyways, well Mexico did not want to sell or fight with the U.S.. According to the Mexican history books, the U.S. threaten General Santa Ana & Mexican politics if they refuse to except the fee. It was really cruel that the U.S. took the Indians land & we thought we were next. To be honest, I am glad that the U.S. took the West & NOT the all the Mexican land. I am American-Mexican & proud!
To answer to your question if the U.S. stoled the land from Mexico? The answer is yes & no.

how far back do we want to carry the whole let's just give it back? i notice that the mexicans have spanish surnames (from spain) so i guess if we are giving things back maybe spain would like what was taken from them. or should we give mexico back to it's indigenous people (the aztecs and mayans) and if you cannot establish you are indigenous (aztec and mayan) to mexico where do the present day mexicans plan to go? i guess like one of the others said this has been done throughout history throughout the world, conquering, buying, selling, and of late good old fashioned war. so like i said how far back are we going with this whole lets just give it back thing? how 'bout that spain/spaniards, aztecs, mayans you want mexico back?

The southern US belongs to the US, period. That having been said, I think it was sold by people who didn't have the right to sell it. Something like that could nver happen in our days. Looking at it from the outside, it seems to me that it's perfectly understandable that the US and Mexican views on it may collide.
EDIT: Thumbs down already, huh? Somebody really is a true idiot and that's not me for sure. I said I was looking from the outside. Do you know what that means? Looking from the outside means you have a clearer view of the whole picture. So sad...

I am the one that posted the question on the Mexico yahoo board (did US steal or buy (states) from Mexico).... I am conflicted with it. As an exchange student, I was freaked out when the teacher yelled at me, but, their support of their side has as much evidence as ours. Someone has "made up" documents.... Their point isn't that it was "stolen" but that it was sold by someone that didn't have permission to sell it, and, it was sold while Santa Ana was under pressure, as, he had been kidnapped. Interestingly enough, though, they (all Mexican citizens) fought about the details on the other board.

Such claims are spurrious, and typically made with the intention of deflecting discussion away from the illegal influx of Mexican citizens into America, today.
