i have read everywhere that its only contracted by contaminated surfaces or through the infected person coughing or vomiting or sneezing. But in our local news report they say "Spread by air, water and personal contact, noroviruses are highly contagious and can survive in food, water and the environment for long periods."
Spreads by air? But they arent like colds they arent airborne? or so i read??? Is that true????

Norovirus is extremely contagious and it can take as little as 100 virus particles to make a person sick.

It's not technically "airborne," but it can suspend in the air when a person spews vomit and/or diarrhea. As gross as it sounds, microscopic droplets from the vomit and feces can get into the air during particularly violent bouts in the bathroom (or so you hope it stays in the bathroom!). Those virus-laden droplets hang in the air for minutes afterwards, which can be just long enough for someone to come along and ingest them by breathing through the mouth or gulping air.

For this reason, if you are living with someone who is sick with noro, it's good to sequester their bathroom. Avoid sharing unless you absolutely have to. And when it's over, clean the bathroom with bleach solution (like Clorox bathroom cleaner!). Any messes involving vomit or diarrhea (like dirty bed linens or general accidents) should also be cleaned with a bleach dilution.
