My Grandfather raised Boston Terriers and a litter was born the day before I was. One of the female pups was given to me the day I was born . That was almost 70 years ago. My "Didi" died when I was 11 and I was crushed! I've had many dogs since then, never been without one and have 3 at this time. I'm sure they will be my last ones.

My first as an adult was Siren, my american bulldog. I was in a rush when i got her (was going to have a baby in 3 months & wanted to get a puppy while I still could) so I did not look in to her breeder very well. Turns out I paid $850 for a puppy mill pup! she has 3 physical deformities & hopefully none on the inside! her ears are turned out wrong, her tail is wrong, which is a spinal defect & she has a nipple in the wrong place! was missing one on the left half way down & has an extra on the bottom of the right! well that turned into a problem when she ended up pregnant (by accident) & she popped the milk duct where the nipple was missing! it has no way of coming out & was obviously painful! so needless to say be sure you're getting a dog from a resposible breeder! I wish I'd had, but she is a very good dog & hopefully won't have any very serious issues!

"My" first dog was bought by my parents for me in 1967 when I was in High School. I had been obedience training our family mix breed, and showed her in a couple of fun matches that allowed mix breed dogs to compete. When "Felicity" was awarded a perfect score at a match, the judge approached my parents and told them they MUST get me a purebred dog so I could "really" show.
While at obedience classes I had discovered the beautiful and most intelligent Sheltie breed and had fallen in love...and one of the obedience instructors bred them.
So, she cost my parents $75.00. I raised her, trained her and trialed her.
It was the beginning. I studied, watched, learned.....bred and showed in conformation for about 25 years...now am an agility instructor and competitor.
Not until 3 years ago did I ever have anything but a Sheltie. Now I have a Border Collie

My first dog was a gift when I was 5, he was a Border Collie that was stolen when I was 6. When I turned 7 recieved another Border Collie, he was stolen that same year. They were sold and I never saw them again. We were living on a farm and on both occasions were stolen by relatives, ya can't pick em eh?
After that my dogs were "heinz 57" from the pound. Excellent dogs and not worth stealing....except now that some value them as "bait dogs" in fights.

I rescued my Puggle from a bad situation. She was free. She is the best dog ever. Why buy from a breeder when there are so many dogs out there in shelters who need homes?

My first dog was found at our local humane society and was $20. He was a cocker spaniel and shih-tzu mix that was dumped off when a stupid dog broker had an "accident" and he couldn't sell the mixes to pet stores...These people who supply pet stores are irresponsible and heartless...I hope the reason you are asking is because you're not considering buying one from a pet store.

local shelter.
$75 including his neuter.
Muttley mix- mostly dachshund I think.
It was a great decision. Today we went for a nice walk. The he met some little boys and coated them in kisses. Then a long bike ride. Then he needed to kiss me and my boyfriend. Now he's sleeping on the couch :) 24lb (he's gained 2.5lb since living with me) of incredibly sweet, cute dog.
