It depends on whether it's your own ear, or somebody else's.

If it's your own ear, you get a two-stroke penalty. If it's somebody else's ear, there's no penalty.

In either case, you get a drop within a club length. So, you'll probably have to play out of your belly button.

I always uses my greens repair tool or a 2 3/4" tee. Hurts like a sumbish, but it works.
