Sherwin Williams has that feature on their color visualizer. Just click on "paint an interior," choose a room, and then at the left side there are tabs, and one of them is "faux finishes." They have ragging, sandscapes, sponging, etc. Then you can drag & drop the color into the room. Click on "details" under the photo to see what colors they used.
Another idea would be to paint stencils, like these:

Or get a wallpaper mural to go on one wall:

HGTV has lots of photos of makeovers. I'm sure you can garner some ideas from that as well. This living room was done with a light latte on one wall, and yellow on the other:

Look for Debbie Travis on line , or Color Your World, they might have techniques that might be of interest to you .
When we bough our house there was a sponging technique on the walls ,it took a lot of work to get them back to a smooth surface ,so think about this, before you begin.

Try Venetian Plaster from Home Depot. They have many colors and the texture is great. It takes some work but when youre finished it will look elegant and it will have your personal touch

I love green shades, they are calming. Shades of yellow will mix well with almost any color and is cheerful. Try site below, it even lets you see the colors you pick in photo.
