The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown but low serotonin levels, chemical brain disturbance, psychological stress and hormonal changes might cause it. The guesses about what might cause it are numerous but the fact is that medicine doesn't really know. Recent studies in Germany indicate that those, who have fibromyalgia, developed it because of stressful or traumatic events that their mother suffered while pregnant.

Though the cause is unknown, the risk factors for having it are:
sex (being female)
age (usually adult...between 30 and 50 years of age)
sleeping difficulties
rheumatic disease (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, etc)
family history

It is not thought to be hereditary but there is a greater chance of having it if someone in your family has it (so familial tendency but not genetic).

Since recent studies indicate that stress or trauma during pregnancy may play a role, try not to worry about passing on the fibromyalgia. I can't give you a "chance" guess since there aren't any statistics. Chances are, your little one will be just fine.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
