"Religion has caused more wars than anything else in history."
It is true that man has used religion for political gain. Nazi Germany had "God with us" engraved in German on the belts of Nazi soldiers. America said, "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition." The law may even allow you to start the Christian Nazi Party, if you so desire. You can become a "reverend" for a few dollars through the tabloid classifieds and then further your political agenda with the world’s blessing, no matter how much it smears the name of Christ.
Jesus tells us in John 16:2,3 that there will be some who, in their error, commit atrocities and murder in the name of God: "The time is coming that whosoever kills you will think that he does God service." However, He informs us that these are not true believers: "And these things will they do to you, because they have not known the Father, nor me." (See also 1 John 3:15.)
Jesus told His followers to love their enemies. So if a man puts a knife into someone’s back in the name of Christianity, something obviously isn’t right. If we human beings can detect it, how much more will God? He will deal with it on Judgment Day.
"I know that the Lord is always on the side of right. But it is my constant
anxiety and prayer that I—and this nation—should be on the Lord’s side."
-Abraham Lincoln

As an atheist, I sharply disagree.
Religions can be thought of as hypothesis that are socially self-reinforcing. That they provide tremendous value to the world can be observed by their members' own welfare benefits. To say that religion has done more harm than good is similar to saying nations have done more harm than good or tribes have done more harm than good.
Religious wars rarely involve religion. Religion serves as a way to find the in and out group. An important set of research shows that religious diversity is a primary preventative to both war between states and civil war. It is single religion, or the near complete absence of religion in a state that makes war likely.
It turns out that having multiple schools of thought which people adhere their identity to forces the competing groups to find ways to manage conflict. States with diverse religious views rarely go to war. It is overwhelming religious dominance, or atheist dominance for that matter, that causes internal abusive relationships and to not have learned internal skills at conflict management.
The wars would have occurred anyway. Prior to the industrial revolution, land was the primary resource in survival. War was a mechanism to control land use. Now that capital is distinguished from land and it is open to anyone, the types and reasons for war diminish. Its greatest risk is failing states that cannot provide economically for the members of the society. The United States has never gone to war with a nation with a McDonald's in it.
Religion is a problem, but lack of education is what makes religion a primary problem.

Well, the religion of Evolution is what drove Adolf Hilter to go after 6 million jews.He thought they had not evolved as far as the blond haired blue eyed people.
So it depends on what "religion" you are talking about.By the way,how do YOU decide what is right and what is wrong?

I agree 200%!
Thank you for bringing out the people willing to speak the truth.
Holy Wars, Holy Sacrifices, Holy Tortures of thousands of people all due to the fact that they belong to a religion.
Every time I say that people just believe I'm referring to the Muslim extremists, but I'm not.
Christians killed thousands of people back in the day, anyone heard of the Crusades? The Inqusition? It all boils down to the fact that we're all human! No matter if you're Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, Protestant, Orthodox, Jehovah, whatever! We're all the same.
Why direct hatred towards another group just because a book of fiction written thousands of years ago tells you too? Accept people for who they are, not for who your religion says they are.

FALSE RELIGION is guilty of the things you say and more. 2nd Corin 11:13-15, "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles OF CHRIST. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light". How do you know which are true and which are false? James 3:17, "But the wisdom that is FROM ABOVE is first PURE, then PEACEABLE, GENTLE, and EASY TO BE INTREATED, FULL OF MERCY AND GOOD FRUITS, without partiality, and without hypocrisy". If it's contrary to these attributes, then it is false hood.

Yawn, anyone who thinks any war has been fought for anything other than resources or power is full of it. Religion, Patriotism, Nationalism, and all the other ism's are just used by the old men in power to convince the young to go out and kill and die.

Religion has done more good than harm.
People who have used religion as their excuse to wage wars they really wanted waged for political or economical reasons- they're the ones that have done more harm than good.

Here is one my favorite qoutes when it comes to the history of the christian religion:
"Of all religions the Christian is without doubt the one which should inspire tolerance most, although up to now the Christians have been the most intolerant of all men." - Voltaire
