hi i just got a female dwarf hamster and im thinking of getting several other hamsters in the same cage.

im thinking of about getting 4 hammies, but here are some choices i thought up:

1. i can breed her, keep her and the females, and give away the males to the pet store.

2. i can go to the swap meet (a really cheap trade market in the city) and buy several baby hamsters for a cheap price. the hamsters are in very dirty cages and have pee on their fur though.

my mother is very stingy on money, and at the nearest petstore they're 13 dollars each. at the swap meet they are 3 dollars. is it possible that i can keep them as they get clean? are diseases going to spread? are they going to live long?

im very experienced in dwarf hamsters, but i kept them one at a time. i tried a pair together, but they wouldnt stop fighting no matter how many attempts i tried helping. is keeping 4 hamsters going to work out?

i have a large bin cage by the way.

well if you want alot of them in 1 cage get a huge cage with alot of room so the hamsters dont fight add 1 feeding dish for every 2 hamsters and make sure there is water. check for sickness alot and only get females as males will fight with each other. so i had 4 dwarfs in 1 cage all females and they might sleep near each other (like in packs) or alone jsut let the hamsters choose there own spots for everything do not chosse it for them and it workes better if tehy areabout the same age. also dont breed you get alot at once ive herd 5+ so dnt do it unless you ahve enoguh room food and water. also the hamsters might want differnet food give them all food water and treats at the same realivte time this way there is no fighting. but ask a pet store about any major deatils you might want to know after all they are experts.

Hamsters are solitary animals and not meant to live together. Fighting is too common. Keep all the hammies in a separate cage if you want more than one. And yes, the cheap dirty hammies may carry disease, so you would want to quarantine them for 30 days in a separate room to be sure.

1.) Don't breed any hamster. That will cause more homeless animals and yes, hamsters can be euthanized.
AND DO NOT EVEN THINK OF GIVING AWAY THE MALES TO THE PETSTORE. If you do, they will NOT be in GOOD HANDS.

2.)THose are probably sick hamsters.

you should never house a male and female together..
get two cages, and when theyre ready to mate put them in neutral territory.. like a cardboard box -.-

that is way too many hamsters together in one cage no matter how big it is. theyll get teritorial and fight.
