There are actually quite a number of armed units in the UK, but it's not standard issue for all police officers.

The UK police will eventually all be armed. It is only a question of how many policemen and women you are willing to allow to be killed before you do. The world is a much more dangerous place in places that never had such a threat before. The UK will have to adapt to it.
