Think of Korea, Viet Nam and a half a dozen other flare ups around the world as pieces of a much larger war - the Cold War. If NATO had not existed, the Soviets would likely have been virtually unopposed in their "continental" ambitions. Ultimately, after 50 years of this cold war, they were defeated. NATO was the instrument of their defeat.
Ever been to Europe? It's an awesome place - free enterprise throughout, free people, beautiful cities, just a great place to visit and live. Imagine that entire continent - everything from the Cinese border to Iran, Iraq, Turkey, over to Spain and up to the Scandinavian countries under their control or a part of the Greater Soviet Empire.
Now all the former satellites of the Soviet Union are either in NATO or trying to join. They all used to be enemy states with Soviet puppet dictatorships. So maybe think about what NATO has done before you decide it serves no further purpose.

While I'm not in a position at the moment, here's a short list of wars in which the United States initiated the conflict since World War 2 and the foundation of the United Nations.
It's likely that every single party to these wars sought the intervention of the UN unless the UN was the agency under which the US chose to fight in but it's not the case that these parties often received the attentions thereof. I've asterisked those wars which I believe the US initiated hostilities for national reasons.
Guatamala 1950-53 *
Korea 1950-53
China 1945-49, 1950-53 *
Indonesia 1950-1953 *
Cuba 1959-61 *
VietNam 1961-73 *
Congo 1964 *
Laos 1964-73 *
Peru 1965
Cambodia 1969-71 *
Lebanon 1983-85 *
Grenada 1982-3 *
Libya 1984-5 *
El Salvador 1984-6 *
Nicaragua 1984-7 *
Panama 1989 *
First Gulf War 1991
Bosnia 1995 *
Afghanistan 1998, 2001- *
Iraq 2003- ##
* - US primarily involved in response to attack or perceived threat of attack.
## - The US engaged the patina of UN involvement but really it was and is a US/UK alliance.

No. As a matter of fact I'd be interested in seeing you cite any evidence of ANY wars caused by them.
