Anything specific I should know? I'm a singer...but I don't have a PA or anything...so I'm slightly clueless here. Like...is there a specific kind to get? With a PA, do I still need an AMP and/or speakers? If so, what kind? ANY specific mic work better than others? As you can see...I need help. Oh, and I also need to know where/how to get as low a price possible w/out getting a piece of sh*t. Please help me?

What you need is an entry level Powered PA. Powered PAs have the amp built in. They are the easiest for new PA owners/bandmembers just getting into the wonderful world of PAs.

You can find them anywhere, and usually expect to pay about 150-350 dollars. Most have 4-6 mic inputs, and speaker outputs, speaker cabinets, and the speaker cables and nothing else.

More specifically, If you are a serious singer in a band, or prospective band, make sure the PA is something that can be expanded on in the future.

A nicer PA will have the above, but will have more channels (8-16+), effect sends, reverb, effects, monitor outputs, and monitor cabs (the slanted cabinets you see onstage that play back the music to the musicians). and much more. These can cost from (450-????).

As far as Mics, Get at least one Shure SM58. These are the industry standard for dynamic Mics. Almost everyone from the dirty garage band on the corner, to the biggest rock superstar uses SM58s.

A good example I found from Musiciansfriend.com

Hope this helps!

First decide if you want wired or wireless. Personally I think AKG has the best response ( even their lower priced mikes sound good.My next choice would be a Shure. With any microphone you're going to need a pre-amp.A Low priced mixer or microphone pre amp from Radio Shack will do. Then you'll need an amp or receiver & speakers or you could get a powered mixer It has built in pre amps & amps So all you'll need then will be the mike & speakers. To save money you could check out some local pawn shops.Check your Yellow Pages under Musical Equipment.Check out GuitarCenter.com They Can help you & they carry everything You need Good Luck !
