i got an afghan blanket from a craft shop and cross stitched vehicles around the edges and his name in the middle. he still loves it now, 2 years later. now been asked to make another for a christening...
or get a massive picture frame and loads of photo's. cut the pictures up to keep the good bits and make a collage. a nice reminder of some favourite days out

i did a hand print kit for my sons secind birthday had 10 kids and they all made a handprint (at home with mom) and brought them to the party and i had paints and glue and stuff to glue on its was a blast the kids LOVED it maybe u should do that for him.
