My cat was sitting with me this morning, and as I was sroking her, I felt a rarther large lump on her back (near the tail). It is soft but doesn't cause her any pain, and she seems to be her usual self. I have told my dad to take her to a vet as I am going on holiday tomorow. My cat is about 6-7 years old and is alowed outside. Can anyone give me more infomation on what this lump is? I am a bit worried. Thanks.

It could be some kind of cyst. If kitty doesn't seem bothered by it, I really wouldn't worry too much. It would be a good idea tho to get her checked out to make sure tho.

Our dog used to get lumps like that- they were little soft benign tumors that didn't bother him at all. It could also just be an accumulation of fluid under the skin. Did the lump move a little relative to the muscle underneath? Take her to the vet to be sure, but don't worry about it- there's a really good chance that it's nothing at all.

it could be a tumor or a abcess. You might be able to tell if it is a abcess and if you look closely at the lump and there is a small cut or scarp its probably a abcess, which will eventually pop open, and yucky puss will come out.

That's strange...the thing that would bother me is that there's no pain, although I'd be glad it's soft.

The first thing I'd think of would be abcess, but that would definitely hurt.

Go to the vet's, as planned. Not much else for it, really.

Has she had any shots recently?? If so it could be build up from the vaccination, if this is the case rubbing it should make it go away, but I'd definitely contact my vet.

You do want to take her to the vet very soon. How long has she had the bump for? It might be just a regular bump, or something worse.
