I counted one time, a brand new unopened loaf of Safeway white bread. Not counting crusts, it came to 21. I thought that was odd. And I always skip the first slice because I'm lousy at sealing the bag again. Kind of like being in a store and I never pick the first magazine in the rack. I don't know why.

I most certainly do skip the first dang slice of bread in a new loaf!

I think Wonder Bread has 22 slices (they used to advertise it as "22 slices fresh") I am not sure because I make my own or buy real bread now. I leave both ends till last because I think the crust helps keep the rest of the loaf from drying out as quickly.
