If you can rent the Movie Jesus of Nazareth, you will see most of The life of Jesus. The basics are ,
There was born a Savior in Bethlehem. It was prophesy that a savior of the Hebrew people would come. When Jesus was born, there was a star that showed three wise men where is was in a manger in a cave where the shepherds watched their sheep. His parents Mary and Joseph were their to pay taxes but she was pregnant. When he was born, King Herod was afraid of the prophesy and being over thrown, so he sent out his men to kill all the young babies. A angel warned Mary and Joseph to go to Egypt with baby Jesus so he would not be killed. When Herod died they came back. Jesus grew up and became a teacher. The Bible does not teach what he did the next 18 years. When he was 30, he was baptized by John the baptist, and the Holy Spirit of God came into Jesus and was in Jesus for the next three years. Jesus by the Holy Spirit performed many Miracles.
The Temple did not like him getting so much attention and leading people away from the temple traditions and teachings. They plotted to Kill Jesus. Jesus had 12 close friends who followed him and protected him. They were called disciples and later were called apostles. One of the disciples named Judas was convinced by the temple high priest to betray Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus also went into Jerusalem and turned over the money changers tables in the temple and yelled at them for making his fathers house a den of thieves. His first Miracle was turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana. He was reported to have raised a man called Lazarus from the dead. He healed the lepers and other sick people including the blind. One day when he was in Jerusalem, during a Passover feast, while he was calibrating the feast meal, he gave bread and wine. He told his disciples before that he was going to be killed. He said that he would be betrayed by one of his friends. The bread he said would represent his body and the wine his blood as representing his body and blood which he would loose when he was killed. He said that when you eat it to remember him.
That night he was taken by the temple guards and tried for Heresy by the Sanhedrin of the temple. They were not allowed to stone or kill anyone on a a Jewish holiday so the took him to Pontius Pilot the Roman Governor. He did not want to handle the problem so he sent him to King Herod.
Herod did not want to deal with the problem so he sent Jesus back and put one of his fine purple robes on him.
Now Pilot had to deal with him so he instructed his men to - beat ( flog ) Jesus. He hoped this would be enough. The Priest said he was claiming to be the King of the Jews. They insisted that Jesus be crucified on the cross. Pilot said he found no wrong in Jesus and had flogged him. He took a bowl of water and said I wash my hands of this matter. They yelled and insisted that he be crucified. There was a man who had killed a Roman guard. His name was Barrabus.
It was Pilots birthday. He said I can let someone go to celibate. He figured that they would let Jesus go, so he gave the crowd a choice. They picked Jesus to go to the cross.
Jesus was marched off to a hill to be crucified. They made him carry part of the cross. He fell down and someone carried it the rest of the way for him. When he got there, they nailed his wrists and feet to the cross and hung him up to die.
He dies about 3 pm in the after noon. They had to take the body down because of the holiday. It was forbidden. So Joseph of Aramithea asked for the body and he was laid in the tomb and a stone rolled in front. The roman guards kept watch over the tomb so no one would steal his body. Jesus was crucified with two others that day. But it does not say what happened to their bodies. On the third day Jesus came alive again. He was resurrected. The angels rolled the stolen away and the soldier ran away. This was the third day and Mary Magdalene came to prepare the body better. She found the stone rolled away and the body gone. Not long after she saw Jesus standing there. He told her to go tell the other disciple and later he came to them so they could see he was alive. Much later then he ascended into heaven. That is called the day of Pentecost. Christianity is built around this man, his story and his words. There is much more but this is the basic story.

First of all, be honest with your teacher by admitting that you are clueless about the subject matter and explain your situation. No matter how many times anything gets pounded into your head, if you have no real interest in it, it becomes an exercise in futility and worthless.

But if you are even slightly curious about Religion as a whole, then you would learn it with great interest on your part without much help from others --regardless whether you're enrolled in a private or public school. And that's also presuming that you do have a library card, and can find some friends with similar interests to talk about it even much more.

You'll only end up being more confused if you get the answers from here. I suggest that you talk to your mom/dad first, then you teacher next. Then also ask or find out from a friend or two about their concept of religion. Remember to keep an open mind always.

Peace be with you.

Dear Delirium, The Bible from Genesis to Revelation is all of a piece. I cannot say which portion is more important. It has been well said: The New is in the Old concealed. The Old is in the New revealed. It has also been said that Jesus is the only person who ever had his biography written before He was ever born. There are more than 300 prophecies about Him in the Hebrew scriptures and people who read them will know without a doubt that Jesus Christ is God-With-Us. I started reading the Bible from cover-to-cover in 1992 and find that each time I read it over again I am abundantly blessed. Today I read Esther 4 to 6 and Acts 5 based on the schedule provided by the Christian radio station I listen to. My least favorite portion is the genealogies but I'm so grateful that the LORD knows each and every one of those names. If it is wisdom you are searching for I would suggest that you ask the Author to reveal Himself to you through your reading. For His glory, JOYfilled - Romans 8:28

maybe try reading some info on the internet or the Bible because there is so much that happens in the New Testament... Im not an expert or anything but the New Testament is the "sequel" to the Old... Its mainly about how Jesus came and died on the cross for our sins. Then later on it tells us about the Last Days.

Basically the Old Testament was for the Jews. It predicted their Messiah (Saviour). The New Testament is based on Jesus being that Saviour. Jesus Christ (Christ being the anointed one). The first 4 books are the gospels, which are about the life of Jesus. The book of Acts tell of His disciples (followers), and what they did, after Jesus' death. The other books are letters answering questions and telling how to live. The last book Revelation is about the "end time".
Christians believe Jesus is the one the Old Testament points to through it's prophecies. Most modern Jews don't believe this.

Get the DVDs about the New Testament: like The life of Brian....or perhaps Mel Gibson's The passion of Christ...
If you like to read there are some good and modern bible translations.

Basically... it is all about the new testament between God and Man. That testament is that He sent His son Jesus Christ to die for mans sin. And what we are to do about it.

That's a really really general outline. If you want a more in depth to help you out with this class or anything else let me know by e-mailing me @ hawkrisesagain@yahoo.com I'd be more than glad to help out. Currently I'm in Bible college so i can hopefully be of great assistance.

Since it's an Episcopal school, probably better learn the basics from an Episcopal source. Different denominations have different basics.

Look on Google under "Episcopal doctrine" or "Episcopal basics", something like that, and you should find what you need.

While you're at it, go and learn something from here, for non-Jews: http://www.noahide.org

The first basic is that Jesus is God

Jesus came to Earth in the form of a man, lived a perfect sinless life, crucified for claiming to be God(was&is),was dead three days and rose on the third day.
