i know what metaphysics is. just trying to contextualize it in terms of this person.

It means a person knowledgeable in metaphysics. The simplest definition of metaphysics is that it is a branch of philosophy that includes oncology and cosmology. Oncology has to do with what we know; cosmology has to do with what the universe is.
To put it in modern terms, a metaphysician is knowledgeable in spiritual matters, but that is admittedly oversimplified.
