I was posting in the Astronomy Forum last night trying to 'enlighten' the people there that had fallen for the Mars hoax, and this is one of the responses that I received. Mind you I made no mention of religion what-so-ever.
simbaholic: You are such a doubter and probably think I have no brain at all for saying that. I am smart enough to know that God might do that and he might prevent the whole tide thing. He stopped time once, but of course you don't believe that.
Wait till the Rapture!
Here is my original post.

Basically this girl, and I'm saying girl because I'm hoping she's still a child by the intelligence perceived here, told me that because this false email was being sent out, and I was trying to keep people from feeling stupid about it, that GOD would completely change physics, gravity, and planetary orbits, just to prove me wrong. Is this really what you are teaching your children?

I remember that email from many years back and people had to be informed back then. I don't know why this Christian got so upset about, exposing the hoax has nothing to do with Christianity, however I know some Christians who do feel that God will; change things just to prove them right. I have even known some who do unethical things and even break laws to make it appear God is on their side. Now I understand not all Christians are like this, but I have seen the very good and very bad side of Christianity.

No. (as I can only assume that your question was simply, is this what we are teaching our children)
I am sorry that simbaholic offended you by her belief in an all powerful God. It is true that the Creator has unlimited power, whether you choose to believe it or not. I do not, however, believe in this time that God uses the miraculous events referenced by the answerer. Bible chronicles a day lost when God's people were fighting against their enemy, and the "sun stood still". I do believe I have read in science texts that in fact there is an unaccounted for lapse in time, around the time of Joshua, which coincides with the Biblical account.
Can God change or alter physics? Yes. Did Jesus walk on water? Change water into wine? resurrect the dead? heal the deaf, blind, paralylized (sp?)? Was He Himself resurrected? YES to all of the above.
I would certain ly and forthrightly propose that it IS within the Almight's abilities to alter the laws that He Himself created and put into place.

not what i'm teaching my kids. the fact is that mars has been far closer than what that article claims. just read immanuel vilikovsky. the ancients went through many things that we shall see soon as well.
regarding being a "doubter"? No clue what that means. however if it was part of prophecy etc..? yes God could move the planets to fulfill whatever was necessary.
her comment wait til the rapture says it all. there is no pretrib fly away, the rapture is a lie.
if you're a pagan it's nice to see you're studying something.
freewill for all souls. believe as you will.

I must say that I teach my child that anything is possible with God. But to think He would do something like this just to prove you wrong? I don't think so. She mentioned waiting until the rapture. I personally don't believe in the rapture. I believe that Jesus is coming back once at the end of time and that's it. So from where I come from, she's got a whole lotta misinformation swimming around in her head.

That was a childish answer.
God can do anything, this is true and He has,
but for His purposes only, not ours!
That info about mars almost had me fooled for a minute
too, but I soon found out it was a hoax, very silly!

I'm surprised she even accepts that Mars exists as a planet. The bible says there is the sun, the moon, and the stars. They are all lights embedded in the firmament. There is no mention of planets or galaxies so they must not exist.

Wow! What a statement.
Do I need to make an excuse for her? She is held accountable for her own statement.
We ALL say stuff that we shouldn't.

anyway, just because that person is almost mind numbingly dumb doesn't mean they're a shining example of Christianity.

I can only morosely echo Brent and Obscure: sad, sad, sad. It's no wonder 40% of the American population still believes the propaganda coming from Bush.
