Speaking to the choir here. If you were, say, caught on tape murdering a 7-11 clerk for $25 in the till...then you get no trial and no jail time. You go straight to the chair. No delays. Period.
Criminals like this have no place in society, jail or not. Unfortunately we have too many bleeding hearts in this country.

I think that if the prisoners become really religious they should have the opportunity to be let out because they must have changed. If the prisoner really did get more religous or found religion they probably wouldnt lie about it because most religions would probably say lying is a sin, so if the prisoners are really religious they SHOULDNT lie about it or it is a sin for them. But not all people are the same, because some people may lie about it. Basically, there are people who lie and commit the sin and there are some that do not have the heart to do it. So i understand why the cops wouldnt let those specific prisoners free.
Maybe, if a cop lets one prisoner free because they found religion, then the other prisoners might act and do the same thing so they can be let out too of jail too. If someone truly finds religion one can truly look into their eyes and see if there is any truth in them. That is something some cops can not do because they just want to guard and do their job. But a police officer's job is to create justice, and justice should be made to those who deserve it (people who actually find truth)
I think every situation is different and this topic might not have an end, so good question :)

I'm sorry but I don't agree with you at all ... I don't like it that prisoners 'use' finding religion to try to get a 'lighter sentence' at all, but I DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE DEATH PENALTY AT ALL. I only believe in 'life sentences' and I also believe that EVERYTHING should be done medically to BE SURE that the criminal LIVES to an extremely old age. There are two reasons for this ... first, that we need to be able to 'talk to' and listen to these people, so that we have a greater chance of 'changing' the life of some other 'future criminal' who could do the same or similar crime ... and I also think that 'death' is just too darned EASY for them. I don't believe that 'Hell' is an 'eternity of punishment' but is more like 'going to summer school' and that even those who commit serial murders and massacres will get to Heaven in the end ... and I'd rather these people be kept in a 'cage' here on Earth, alive, to 'think about' their crimes than to be sent to this 'summer school' right away ... but 'Fry them'? NEVER. THAT WOULD BE FAR TOO LENIENT TO THEM.

They're just working the system that allows them to do this, and get leniency based on the biased religious views of the people on the parole board.
But I don't agree with your 'Fry them all' statement. Prison, if it really is a prison and not some health spa like in the UK, should be more of a punishment than the quick, easy punishment of death.

Well, there is a concept called the Faith of an Empty Hand. Truthfully, people find God and Grace at their lowest point. Based on that, I would say that you will see a tendency for those in prison, especially those who are on death row, to reach out to God for their spiritual salvation.
This is not to say that they deserve leniency from the justice system, but that it is not necessarily a deceptive practice (though most certainly some are deceptive).
We, as Christians, are called to be compassionate upon those who are incarcerated and pray for their salvation. Jesus' own disciples were among the lowest of the social classes (prostitutes, beggars, thieves, etc). God saves those who need saving, and that means there is a whole big load of souls to save in prison.

Agreed. Although it is possible that a handful of them are very serious. Prison is a rough place and can push into new life changing lifestyles. I think you could pick those ones out because they would be the ones that would not be trying to use it as a device to get out, and if they really believed in something bigger than themself (like religion), they would not care whether they are put to death or not, or released or not.

Well there's a difference if they're faking or if they've actually found god in themselves. You always seem to find god when you're at your lowest and have nowhere to look but inside you. So it's not crazy that a lot of inmates have claimed this to be true, especially those on death row.. However, I don't think it should have any effect whatsoever with their release date. Finding god should be enough of a weight off their shoulders, and make their time easier. That's all they're entitled.

Religion, good behavior, and/or repentance should have no bearing on time served on a prison sentence. Too many people view prison as a gigantic time out where prisoners are supposed to think about what they've done and feel sorry for it, rather than the punishment it is meant to be.

Almost all inmates find Jesus one they are in. That's a good thing. I know that when they get out a huge portion of them go right back to the life that lead them to prison. No Jesus to be found in them. Michael Vick says now that he's found Jesus. Damage control?

I don't think your opinion is true across the board.
I think some people actually have time to reevaluate their lives and for some of them becoming religious seems natural.
If they're on death row....it's not going to make a difference.
If they're up for parole....all of them put their best foot forward...that's what the process is all about....even when it's fake.
