The manufacturers sell to the dealers, and the dealers sell to the public. If you could bypass the dealers, the dealers would soon go out of business and there would be no source for any warranty repairs!

If you want to buy from the manufacturer, you will have to buy a dealership!

As far as I know you can't buy a car directly from the factory. You can custom build one, but you will have to place the build order through a local dealership.

If everyone purchased through the factory there would be no need for dealerships, and since dealerships are the bread and butter of the car industry they won't do that to them.

I sold cars for 3 years in Phoenix and just left the industry in May. I had factory retirees, and relatives of current employees, come in and order cars. Even they weren't allowed to purchase direct from the factory.

Here's what you can do:

Go online to the factory site - it's usually the make name .com - for instance, Chevy.com or Hyundai.com.

There will be a link titled "build your own vehicle" or something like that. Click on it and build your vehicle to your exact stats. Then print that out.

Take that printout down to a local dealership and tell them you want to "order" it built for you. It should take about 6 weeks, although I had a few come in 4 weeks.

If the dealership won't order the vehicle for you, but tries to push you into buying one off the lot that isn't equipped the way you want, then walk off and go to another dealership.

Keep in mind that you will be subject to the rebates and financing specials that are available at the time the vehicle arrives, not any specials going on now. Dealerships cannot finance a car, or sell one, without a VIN number and those aren't assigned to vehicles until they are actually manufactured.

If you want to you can secure financing ahead of time through your local bank or online at my site: http://www.1-800badcredit.com.

I have a section for car buyers, and articles on how to negotiate for a good car deal. If your credit is good that's alright. While my site is devoted to people with bad credit most of my lenders specialize in good and bad credit scores.

Pre-approval is a great way to get a good deal at the dealership. When you are pre-approved you can negotiate on the price of the car and not the payments (which is how dealerships usually sucker you in to paying more for the car).

Good luck to you! Hope you get your dream car!
