Is worth upgrading? Are there any free tutorials out there?

Yes, the upgrade is worth it. There are improvements to the interface - better and more sliders as well as smart objects, and filters that are non-destructible and work like adjustment layers.

It is a much improved product with many of the design features developed for Lightroom for easier editing.

www.radiantvista.com has some excellent tutorials for working with digital photographs and now is using CS3 in them. There are also lots using CS2. Large files 20-70MB, good quality and excellent explanations of why they are used.

Well, you can upgrade to CS3 for more cool features and it's easier than CS2.
