Within MS Word, go to Tools (drop down menu) choose options. Under "View" tab, about half way down under the "Formatting Marks" area, uncheck the items you don't want to see. Click OK.

Try this: 1. Press CTRL/SHIFT/8 (on the upper row) to show hidden formatting characters, in particular, the ¶ at the end of each paragraph. 2. Go to the end of the document and delete any empty paragraphs marked with that ¶. Note that you will not be able to delete the last ¶ in the document. Delete the one before it if you have to. 3. When you're done, press CTRL/SHIFT/8 again. That should get rid of the trailing stuff. Hope that helps.

There is a "show/hide" (paragraph symbol) on the Standard tool bar. Once you have that visible you can click on the down arrow at the end of the tool bar to select/deselect buttons.

If you select the Help option, type in "hide paragraph" and the solution comes right up.

There should be a formatting button in the toolbar area. Looks like a backwards P ( ¶ ). Click on it.
