I've always dreamed of having a medieval wedding. Well, upon planning and looking at the cost, my wedding has become more and more traditional, so now I'm looking to at least add a little medieval flair! Does anyone know of any websites with ideas or pictures? (I don't want it to be completely historically accurate....I love the things out of movies like Tristan and Isolde or Braveheart.) Thanks guys!

My first thought was to go to a poster site there are tons on line. find some really appealing posters and drape fabric around th outside. Something like the unicorn tapestry in other wards art that might hang in a medieval castle. Also the one medieval we ding I went to we worked with a costume shop in town that made the bride and groom's clothes and the rest of the wedding party and guests rented them. The owner worked with alot of theater companies. Someone like that might be a good resource for props and have some great ideas too. Having fragrant herbs such as lavender, thyme rosemary on the floor( not on a carpet) or tables would be historically accurate. Think pennants and banners have a juggler dressed as a jester, a magician dressed like Merlin. If you want to go all out rent costumes for the serving staff. The reception I attended was a dinner served at the jousting tournament where everyone ate with their fingers from wooden trenchers. That may be a bit too historically accurate for a wedding though.

What about banners of coats of arms? With a little ingenuity, felt and glue you can make your own. You can even do one for your maiden name and one for your married name. You can have a Maypole with ribbons in your colors and have a may pole dance. You can also have small accents like your toasting flutes be pewter chalices, maybe have celtic braid wedding bands, definitely have candles. Go to a local renaissance faire. (The one in Tuxedo NY is awesome btw and it is going in the next few weeks) Your dress can have a medieval flair to it with bell sleeves. There are a lot of things you can do without breaking the bank.

Did you look for a vintage dress? A lot of them are really affordable and there are a lot of web sites out there for vintage wedding gowns. Here are some sites I found on renaissance/medieval weddings:

Good luck!

Google "renaissance wedding" or "medieval wedding", see what comes up.

You may want to see if there is an SCA group in your area - sca.org - they may be able to help with garb (costumes) and other stuff.
