Ok so ive been using a wrist brace for a week now. My symptoms are getting better from wearing it, but i can still feel it in my fingers and wrist.

I'm wondering when i should wear it, when im sleeping? working? on the comp? as long as possible? and if so how long for each one?

I asked my dad and he said i shouldn't wear it when im sleeping but i dont know if that is true.

This is important because i am a drummer in a band and if my wrist doesn't get back to 100% then it won't be looking good.

Thanks for helping me so much! =]

Also, i wanna do all of this without losing my hand strength, this is important for drumming....or else ill drop my sticks when i play shows.

im afraid that will happen if i leave the wrist brace on forever, and also that my wrist will not be as flexible as it was before.

definitely wear it when you sleep, the brace maintains a neutral position so the tissues can truly relax and heal while you sleep. Use it for any repetative motion activity, like typing or drumming. Wear it constantly when you have a flare up of pain or increased numbness. Don't get it wet tho. The brace cannot hurt you, and will help the symptoms a lot.

I was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel syndrome in 2001, given the braces for my both my wrists and ones for my elbows. I was told to wear them all day, everyday and while sleeping. I was also told that I could take 1000mg of Motrin, not Advil, not ibuprofen but Motrin.

I wore those braces religiously for years until I felt that I didn't need them anymore. Occasionally my wrists will bother me and I have lost A LOT of hand strength but other wise I am doing well.

it is usually worn in bed to keep the wrist in a straight position. I've seen most people wear them throughout the day also. Ask your doctor.

you need to ask your doctor or whomever prescribed the wrist brace. you probably shouldn't be using the computor or drums until the numbness is gone.

it's not meant to relieve pain, it's meant to keep the wrist stationary so it doesn't move so it gives your wrist a chance to "rest". for pain take aspirin or ibuprophen, both have anti-inflamatory properties and see your doctor for a proper diagnosis.
