We are moving to a different state and need time to find a home, get settled in, and most importantly find jobs.

If he has saved up any leave he need to put in for it. Say he has 60 days on the books they can say no or ok on it. Lets say he is told ok take your 60(provided he has that much. Keep in mind as of 1 Oct if he is setting on 60 days anything over that is lost. So it is best he take enough so he will not lose any. after all that he can submit for permissive TAD that is what we called it in the Marines, sure the Army has a like term. Then his command can approved or Deni, they approve then you set up your House hold move and begin that game. The great thing about it he is on leave and he can be working by the time it runs out. However, once his leave is up your pay will drop. Now if he decides to come back in remember he used x number of days so this will come back to get you later. I was always told 60 is all you get. Sell 30 take 30 now on the next enlistment you gain 60 days you can only sell 30. Also while on leave you guys should still be under the heal of the service until his leave is all gone an or you set up something. I say you it is a family thing not you per say

he needs to check with the personnel office, not sure which branch he is, but the AF requires you to take a class no less than 6 months before you leave the service to explain procedures so im sure the others have something similar. anyway in the AF you get whatever leave you have as terminal leave, and an additional 30 days for house/job hunting etc. you have to take it at the end though.

ok editing myself here, i didnt look at your screen name lol. my whole answer could be entirely incorrect since you are army but you should still check most of the rules on stuff like that are the same across the board.

No. You can only take permissive TDY upon separation if you're retiring or medically discharged.

if he has leave saved up he can take up to two months of terminal leave. taking terminal leave basically means you ETS two months early but still get paid like normal for those two months.
