Cropping is usually done between 8-12 weeks, but I have had one done @ 16 weeks. Be sure to get a vet that is very experienced at ear cropping. You also have months of after care after the surgery!!!

It is best when done between 10-14 weeks because this way, the ear muscles/tendons have developed so that the puppy can hold it's ears up once they are cropped, and also the vet can better judge the grain of the muscle to make the best cut for each individual dog. You do not want to do it when they are older than that, most vets won't or they charge an outrageous rate.

The normal cost is between $130-$250, our vet does it for $65. I have only done a few of our dogs because I feel that they were born with ears, they can die with ears. However being a breeder, I understand that a majority of pitbull owners want ear crops so if I keep any from a litter that I plan to sell in the future, I will sometimes get crops done.

If you have a vet, talk to him/her and see if they do crops & what age they recommend. I have always done them b/w 12-14 weeks & they stand perfectly.

FYI-it's not a pretty sight and I don't care what anybody says, it DOES hurt the dog =(

That depends on the dog, usually you have up to 6 months after that you cant, i have pits and i have up to six months what i mean by up to six months is all a factor of how fast the vien grows throught thier ear, ask your vet and he can tell you,
And no ear triming in not illegal, people only view dogs who have there ears cropped as fighter dogs, but that aint true its just for show, some dogs look cool with there ears cropped

IF you get ears cropped it MUST be done by the time the puppy is 16 weeks old.Younger is far better. You also need to be dedicated to proper taping and care. Taping can take months and there is still no guarantee the ears will stand. It is also very difficult to find a vet that crops let alone one that does a good job. Ear cropping is NOT taught in vet schools nor is it any longer condoned by the AAHA/AVMA.

Please research your vet thoroughly, if the crop is not done properly your dog may have horrible pain and may look really bad. Cropping has been banned in a lot of places, so I hope you will really consider WHY you are getting the dogs ears cropped.

Our opinions about what age to crop has come from experience and an understanding of physical and neurological development of a puppy. We crop at 7 weeks and try to avoid the 8th week of development. On occasion we crop at 9 weeks if for some reason the animal is not up to par (worms, coccidia) and we put it off until 9 weeks. The last week we would consider cropping is 10 weeks of age, due to size and development, but this is the absolutely latest to do this procedure

Why would you want to put your dog, through that kind of torture. Cropping is unnecessary and cruel. It's only done for cosmetic purposes, if you can even find a vet, that is willing to do it. Many vets have stopped doing that procedure, because it's cruel, it's excruciatingly painful for the poor dog, and the dog has a long recovery ahead of him. PLEASE DON'T PUT YOUR DOG THROUGH THAT KIND OF PAIN, IT'S NOT FAIR!

Depends on the dog and the type of cropping. I have a Sheltie and her ears are supposed to tip. Most pups ears don't harden until they are 6-8 months old...so I would suggest getting it done before that.

I have a boxer and my vet will not do the ears. They say that it is cruel but a friend had her done but it had to be before 9 weeks.
