Is it appropriate to have a baby shower for someone who already has kids from a 1st marriage; divorced; remarried; now pregnant?

Technically? No it is not appropriate. However, this is as you put it a 2nd family, and most likely the baby necessities are either old or gone. So..... Most of her friends probably know this fact and would not look at it as inappropriate but a necessity. Remember tho, it is never appropriate for family to give the baby shower. Another alternative you and other friends may consider is to have a luncheon or dinner and just bring gifts. Leaving out all the baby shower games etc. This would solve the concerns in this situation and make the "again mom to be" feel good.
Best wishes to your friend

I think it is appropriate for anyone to have a baby shower that is expecting a new baby- especially when they no longer have any baby stuff. Like me, for instance.... I thought I was done, until I got pregnant on the pill.... now not only are we surprised, but also mostly broke and don't have any baby items anymore. :(
I am hoping a family member will give us a shower..... it would be nice to honor the new baby.

well it depends. If it's been a while since the first baby then yes. I have a 12 year old, and if I were to get pregnant I would hope to have a baby shower, since I no longer have any baby stuff.

It depends on the situation. If there is significant age differerence between her last child and this, she probably needs new things.

If its the first for the father, its a nice gesture to have a shower for his child. Make is a couple shower.

Some will still think is in bad taste, but its a new generation and thoughts change.

Of course- every new baby deserves a baby shower. However, according to Miss Manners' Guide to Etiquette, the mother-to-be's family is not supposed to throw the shower for her. It is supposed to be done by friends.

I HAVE SEEN IT GO BOTH WAYS. TYPICALLY, IT WOULDN'T BE EXPECTED BUT, IF YOU FEEL LIKE HAVING A SHOWER FOR SOMEONE I THINK IT'S O.K.
