I am very overweight and I have come to a point where it has to change! I am 5'4 and 285 lbs. I know thats a lot but I am going to try to get down to about 150 for my long term goal. I have been going to the gym for the past week and I have walked 3 miles each time I go on the tredmill. It says I am burning 500 calories. I walk 3 miles in 60 minutes. I also do random machines to work my legs, arms and back for about 30 minutes. Today for breakfast I had a packet of peaches oatmeal for 140 calories. For Lunch I had 2 turkey dogs(240 cal.) 2 pieces of whole grain bread (240 cal.) and a pudding. That equals out to 740 calories for breakfast, lunch and snack. I still have supper so I know to go easy on that. If anyone has any suggestions on the gym or eating I will def. take all the pointers I can get.

Good for you on making the decision to change your lifestyle to improve your health. The most important advice is to stick to it!! It is the consistency over time that will prove the most beneficial to you. Do NOT get discouraged at the rate the loss occurs at; the most important thing to remember is you did not get this way over night and you will not lose it overnight. It is truly a lifestyle change and not a "temporary diet" that you will revert from once you reach your goal. Good luck!!

Congratulations on your choice to make these changes.
You are on the right track. I do not believe in counting calories, it seems to be a big waist of time.
If you eat healthy and exercise the weight will just come off.

At two months pregnant I was 5'7" and weighed 200 pounds.
I moved back home with Mom. We ate 1 egg, 2 slices of bacon, grits and 2 slices of toast for breakfast. A sandwich with chips, pickles and or olives for lunch. Took a Nap. Got up ate a snack -- banana w/peanut butter or a bowl of cereal - something to take the edge off. Diner was always a meat, a veg and a starch. Bread was always served with butter and there was always a desert. Around 9 or 9:30 we had a snack. It ranged from chocolate to grapefruit slices.

I ate like a Horse. When my son was born. I weighed 135 pounds.

Healthy eating and moderate exercise is the trick. It is a lifestyle. No starving, no doing without the chocolate or ice cream, no counting calories, no "low fat" items.

Just good old fashioned reasonable eating.

I don't know if you are interested or not but i will throw this out there. I was on a diet about 3 years ago. I lost a decent amount of weight just by changing a few ways that I ate. And it stayed off, except I just had a baby and well, i let the pregnancy munchies get the best of me so I am now working on getting back on track. Email me (its in my profile) and maybe we can work together to help each other out. I had a friend of mine (300+lbs) try it and she was loosing about 2 lbs a day. When I lost the weight a few years back I got down to a size 8 and stayed there. Most people try to watch calories, but calories really don't matter. If you are interested, email me and we can talk.

Hi. Try to eat little meals but often, about 6 times a day, that way your metabolism is always working.
When it comes to the gym, try to push yourself, 3 miles in an hour is too long. Cut it down to about 40 min, try to run, if you get tired then power walk.
Try classes at the gym, you usually end up making friends and it motivates you to keep coming.
I'm not sure how many machines you use in 30 min but that is too little. Whenever you go on a machine do 3 sets or so of 8 reps. Also do not do them fast but slowly, a 4 count, 2 down 2 up, that way it works your muscles a lot more then if you were to just yank a lot of weight.
Good luck =)

hey being overweight i know is hard to get out of. I would suggest keep exercizing doing what your doing and the one thing you NEVER want to do is pack in most of your food at night. Eat breakfast, do not skip it it doesn't help at all. skipping breakfast can actually be worse for you because then you are more hungry at night and eat before you sleep. and when you sleep your not working of any of the food. LUNCH SHOULD BE YOUR BIGGEST MEAL NOT DINNER!! and dont be upset if you arent losing much weight right away... your lucky if you can lose two pounds in a week. dont go into this thinking your gonna be burning fifteen a week you'll just disappoint yourself. slowly but surely youll get into a normal weight class! good luck ;-)

staying focused and commited is the hardest part of the whole process.. things to do as far as your diet are: do not set rediculous standars for yourself. you list a good days diet, but is it something that you can stick to day in and day out.. allow some freedom in what you eat, but DO NOT OVERINDULGE.. nobody can eat tuna fish and lettuce day after day for years on end, but we cannot eat pizza and icecream every day and expect results either.. just use your head and make smart food choices. keep a log of each week, record your weight loss and achievements so on the days when you dont want to go on, you have something to look at and see how far you have come. as for the gym, try to do cardio 4 times per week, 45 minutes to 1 hour at a pace that is not too hard, but not too easy. you are there to work out, not take a leisurely stroll.. speed is not importanat, but the effort put forht is, so make the best of your time at the gym. these are all basic pointers, but sometimes we forget the basics. good luck to ya

I don`t know how old you are, but if you`re still young, keep it up...it will come off. Being younger, once you take it off, keep it off. It`s the 'yo-yo' that kills future weight loss! Sounds like you`ve got it together, it`s the sticking with it part that`s hard.
